There are so many variables to think of, players on hand, expiring contracts, Free agency, and the draft, however I had the idea that in our desire to bring in a new GM/HC/OC/DC etc, that perhaps for each position there is a "Goldilocks zone." Was philbin too old? was mike McCoy the young up and comer we should've picked? Ireland had been in the league in varous capacities for years, but was/is he too young? I hear talk about polian, but Is he too old?

Anyway maybe its not a factor, or maybe its one of the factors, just an idea that age could play an important part in narrowing our search.

Vision and a plan. That ussually makes a great QB a big part of that. We potentially have one. thats why this whole thing is tricky.

I think that Ross should fire Ireland yesterday then have Carl Peterson and two consultants being Tony dungy and Don Shula help him pick a GM to lead his franchise.
Hell maybe bring in Bill Polian and Marty shottenheimer as well. Ross should do this like a business decision that's is made with the help of consultants that know what the hell they are doing.

Passionate, hard working, successful, experienced, and People who are winners no matter what level. There has to be inside information on people who are talented and either current or up and coming, get us these people.

Layman Might say Mayock, Casserly, etc and I'm on the fence too but there's a reason they're in the booth and not on a NFL payroll.

I'd be ok with Martyball for a few years.

Head coaching experience. And a track record of success at more than one place. I don't want another Cam Cam or Tony who had head coaching experience but was lousy at it. I don't want another Philbin who had never been the guy in charge. And I absolutely do not want another offensive coordinator who had an elite QB making him look good.

I see teams who are looking at Adam Gase (Broncos OC) because the Broncos are shattering offensive records. I just laugh. What has that guy done other than have Peyton Manning and Demaryius Thomas on his team in a division where only one of the other teams even bothers to play defense?

It's this reason that I would do whatever it takes to get a guy like Gus Malzahn to at least consider jumping to the pros (I really doubt he would). Or I go hard after a Jay Gruden. Everyone looks at Jon Gruden as the big name, but Jay is getting incredible scoring output out of an offense run by captain pick six himself, Andy Dalton. And he was extremely successful in the Arena League both as a starting quarterback and a head coach. That's what I'm looking for. A proven track record of success across the board everywhere he's been. He has made his teams better as a player, as a head coach, and as a coordinator. And you can directly trace that improvement and success to his tenure at each of those stops.

You have to be careful about consultants. Why because the NFL is full of friend hires and nepotism. They will promote their guy. Not necessarily the right guy

That's why you don't hire just one. With five guys choosing it wont be their buddy getting the job unless their buddy is pretty damn good

Quickest way to improve a team? Bring in someone who can work with the team's current strengths and knows how to fix the weaknesses. Someone who is smart enough to adapt their plan to take advantage of those strengths. This is why after 2 years what strengths Miami had have disappeared... Philbin was a BAD choice for Head Coach.
