For a 3rd string guy I feel the guy has some explosion and moves for his age. He was kind of under utilized as well when Ronnie Brown was out.

Yeah its hard to rely on someone like him with Ricky there but Miami did good spreading the ball between Brown and Williams when all was well and everyone was healthy, why didn't we see more of that with Williams and Hilliard? Or Polite?

Should we see more of them in the coming year?

I think Hilliard and Cobbs will have a great battle for the 3 spot during training camp and I don't know how we could see more Polite, he's a blocking FB and short yard guy.

Both of them are AWESOME! Polite from a hard-nosed blocker standpoint and Hilliard from the fact that he ran away from his highly trained german shepard when he was a kid (which showed at times during his brief time on the field). Like Don said, I'm looking forward to seeing the battle between Cobbs and Hilliard during training camp.

I think Lex is great, but he won't unseat Cobbs. Polite though will get more snaps then any running back since he is the neckbone of our running game.

I think Cobbs will win out as the 3rd down back next year because of his role in the Wildcat. They are both great at catching the ball out of the backfield. But I think Hilliard needs to work on his blocking, as you can see from the last game. He will be kept on the roster as the #4 back next year just like last year. When Rickey retires after the 2010 season, Hilliard will take over his spot as the #2 back behind Ronnie. As long as we sign Ronnie, we are set for years at the RB position.

hilliard needs some more reps, hopefully during the preseason so we could see what he could do on 20 carries or more to see if has what it takes

Hilliard looks like he has potential as a #2. He won't be a 1B like Ricky was with Ronnie, but he breaks tackles and is a threat out of the backfield. Polite is the best FB on the league and couldn't possibly utilized more. He was on the field more than any FB in the NFL. I would prefer we always just hand him the ball in any short yardage situation seeing as how he couldn't be stopped, but that's not his fault.

1.) Cobbs will be coming off injury so he won't be a lock to beat out Hilliard for the #3 RB job. Both guys are decent but no better than RB3s.

2.) I hope we're not still using the wildcat next year.

3.) Ronnie should be traded via a 2nd round tender. He should not be signed long term b/c he is too injury prone, almost 30 and not elite.

Draft CJ Spiller at 1.12 if Dez Bryant is gone. If Dez is there, take him at 1.12 and draft Dwyer or Best in the 2nd round. We must add a stud RB. Ricky is all but done and Ronnie should be moving on.

Hilliard filled in admirably but let's not get carried away.

^I read today Cobbs is walking around without a limp and the training staff said he is fully healed and amazed at how quick he recouped.

Great so our defense sucks but atleast it will be fun to watch the offense try to outscore everyone.

What is Sheets' future with this team. I don't know much about him but it sounds like there is potential. With the injuries he would have seen the field if he was better. I just have a feeling he may be around for a while.
I really like Hilliard and Big Lou. Polite is the best in the league.

Until Ronnie is signed to an extension, we need to keep all of these backs.

If Ronnie resigns, we know 2 spots are taken, as we are gonna keep Ricky as long as he wants to be here and play.

Ricky is in his last year of his contract and so is Cobbs. Hilliard has 2 years left and Sheets is an undrafted guy playing at the league minimum. He had a nice game in the preseason, but we have already struck gold in the UDFA market with Bess, to expect more than a situational RB role out of Sheets would be asking alot, tho anything is possible. I hope the kid can return and play special teams, thats where his staying value will come from.

Personally, I think Sheets will be the odd man out, and we will try to put him back on the PS.

As far as the 2 players this thread is about . . . Polite is an obvious keeper. Big time blocker, money on short yardage situations and he can even catch the ball out of the backfield. He was a top 5 FB in the league this year. He also plays special teams.

Hillard, I really like his hard nose running style. He proved he can catch the ball with ease out of the backfield and he plays special teams. The key with him will be in "protection packages" . . . yesterday we saw him twice whiff on Woodley. I am hoping that Dan Henning isn't that dumb to put a RB on Woodley and expect success . . . even Ronnie on Woodley would be a huge mismatch (and Ronnie is a damn good blocker and solid in pass pro) . . . so I'm thinking some bad communication happened there and we didn't see Hilliard alot after it.

I could see the Ronnie/Hilliard/Cobbs/Polite combo sticking around for a few years.

Hilliard should be kept as the backup FB even if he doesn't beat Cobbs for the 3rd RB spot. Hilliard and Polite would be a nice jumbo backfield package. Hilliard has shown that he can catch out of the backfield and blow up corners when he gets to them.
