derek anderson is a restricted free agent and i'm sure the browns will tender him at a 1st and 3rd..they just offered him a 3 year contract between $15-20 million..he wasn't too thrilled..(kffl and profootballtalk.com)..he is 23, 6'6", and can make all the throws and proved that he can play at this level..now granted, cleveland has a lot more weapons than we do but still..i'd rather have him than any qb coming out of this draft..if we offer him a 5 year contract i'm sure they won't match it..but what do we give up?? we are obviously not giving up the 1st pick in the draft for him..maybe we can trade down with dallas or maybe give up our 2nd (32) technically a 1st and our 3rd..we can definitely get him and remember that parcells and crennel are good friends..plus he can come in and start right away..

no way. he looked horrible before he got a line when he came in last year and this year he did play well but he wont behind our line and without the offensive weapons the browns have (winslow, edwards, lewis, jurvecious*.)

Derek Anderson would be a great pickup but unless they wany John Beck for him, he will be too hard to trade for.

I started a thread about this but I think it got lost in the problems they had here last weekend.

I suggested that if the current brass isn't sure that Beck is the QB of the future, they could consider trading Jason Taylor and a pick (like a 3rd this year or a conditional 3rd next year that could be as high as a first depending on playing time and performance)

The Browns biggest need right now is on the D-line and they don't have a first round pick this year to address that need with.
Plus, they're built to win now, so getting a proven pro bowl pass rusher makes alot of sense for them.

We would be doing JT a favor since we probably won't be competitive until after he retires anyways. so let him play his last two years for a contender.

No thanks. He can with the Browns. He's only had one good year, and it would cost us too much. We need several excellent drafts before we can start pissing away draft picks again. If he lights it up for the next coulpe of years...maybe.

If he "lights it up" for the next couple of years they won't be trading him, they'll be trading Brady Quinn, and then you'll say the same thing about him that you're saying about Anderson now.

Nobody trades a Peyton Manning or a Tom Brady, not even for your next 10 first round picks, half your defense, the capitol building and the Vatican.

QB's are the hardest players to find and if someone is willing to trade you one he's either washed up (McNair, Culpepper) or he's not 100% proven and you're banking on his potential (Favre, Schaub, Anderson, etc)

You speak of "pissing away draft picks" but Derek Anderson is a safer bet than any of the QB's coming out in this year's draft.

let the browns tender him at #1 and have nobody bite. they'll be anchored down by two huge QB salaries. then the browns have to get rid of one of them below market value. thats the earliest i'd have any interest in either of their qb's. give beck a chance behind a real line.

I agree because lets face it, in the nfl when you got a guy that with the tool's Derek Anderson has shown, the value is quite high.

If we did the Dallas trade, I'd give them one of the two firsts without hesitation. Anderson is good...

Actually from what I've heard about in the Cleveland area is that even with the highest tender to Anderson, he and Quinn would only count around $3 million against their cap. They can keep him and feel no ill effects cap wise.

They are dealing with Anderson now, but the Brownies are offering only a 3 year deal whereas Anderson wants 5.

That said I still wouldn't want him. If Cleo were playing in Cleveland this past season he'd have had similar numbers.

Just look at how the Browns fared after the mid way point. Anderson was average at best, it was Jamaal Lewis who carried that team. With the Weapons Cleveland had they were practically guaranteed to do well as long as that QB had some semblance to an arm (hence why they let Frye go after game 1)

I'll rather keep our picks and build from within. I'm fine with letting Beck play this season and seeing if he's the answer, if not, then hey were in position to grab whatever next great QB is coming out of college

Cleo Lemon wouldn't have done a thing if he played for Cleveland, please don't confuse yourself.

Derek Anderson played well before this season.

2007 16 gms 298/527 56.6 % 3,272 yards 29 TDs 19 Int
2006 5 gms 66/117 56.4 % 793 yards 5 TDs 8 Int

He was showing signs of being a good quarterback in 06. He just got a healthy Kellen Winslow, a healthy Offensive line, and Brady Quinn sparked some fire under him. Much like Rivers did with Brees in San Diego.

A 1st and a 3rd and you guys think no one will bite? Teams like Minnesota who could be a quarterback away would make that deal in a heartbeat. I'd take him if we could do the Jason Taylor and a 3rd for him. But then that'd be giving up on Beck and I believe it's to early to do that.

If Beck has a bad year this year, we'll probably have a nice third/fourth round pick to step in and take his place. Perhaps a Henne/Woodson/Flacco, if we don't see anything in any of our quarterbacks come next season. Then pull the trigger and get him after his Tenure is up.

I throw out the 2006 stats because he came off of the bench, no one had any film of the guy.

Yes he did start off extremely hot, but he fizzled at the end. By mid season he was already getting labled an INT thrower, and when the Browns needed a win the most (vs Cinncy) he goes and throws 4 picks that game.

Sorry, but he's a younger Trent Green, and he's already throwing picks like Trent was throw before his latest head injury.

I could see Minny biting on the 1st and 3rd, myself personally, I'll pass on that. If we get QB in this draft, I wouldn't mind Henne/Flacco/Brohm (if for some dumb reason he drops to us at #32 (or wishful thinking #28 come on Cowboys!)
