I never thought I would have to worry about it, but I'm starting to think JT might be on his way out. With the newly installed 3-4 defence and all the D-ends that Coach Saban is picking up I'm wondering.

1. JT makes a lot of money. Unloading him would losent the salery cap Noose a little more and allow for some lower priced free adgents

2. Saban looks like a guy that really wants to put his name on this team and JT is JJ's player not his.

I don't want to see him go and I never thought you could get rid of him, but hes not quite a Marino in Miami yet.

What do you think>?

i agree with you but if saban does that he is a jacka** and besides we will still use the 4-3 more than the 3-4. He will do it only to make a statment imo, if he does.

There has been talk about him playing linebacker. as fast as JT is I, for one, would be very excited to see him cover people as a LB.

Picking of passes for TD's:cooldude:

After watching Sabans interviews and several comments he has made i have realized that he is very careful with what he says, and i just dont think he would tell everybody including jt personally that hes going to build the team around him and then just dump him like a piece of... If he does he would loose credibility with his team and if i were a player i woulndt trust a word he said after that.

I think Jason Taylor with thrive in the type of defense Saban is installing. He has always been on the small side for a DE. I don't think he will have any problem playing a pass rushing LB at times.

In fact JT is EXACTLY the type of player Saban would want in that position. Imagine the team switching from a base 4-3 to the 3-4 just before the snap. The QB will be forced to make a lot of decisions with very little information. I really think JT will be a monster in this program.

JT is safe.
Why on earth would a defensive minded coach drop a Pro Bowl DE??

We have not installed the 3-4, Saban has gone on record saying he will play the 4-3 and build around Zach and JT.

So why do people think there is always a secret agenda?

JT will be a Fin for awhile.

I hope he retires a Fin.

I think he is a bit too tall to play LB. I wouldn't mind seeing him pull up to LB every now and again though. Just imagine all of the possible switch arounds we could do with our defensive front 7. Especially now that Roth & Crowder are in town. The other team won't have a clue what to do.

You drop him our defence automatically becomes avearge at BEST! Most likley below average.

What do I think is going to happen to Jason Taylor? I think he is going to stay a Dolphin and will have a Pro Bowl season this year. I think Saban will keep him and has no intentions of getting rid of him. I think Saban will only test us as a 3-4 defense maybe 15% of the time, but we will remain a 4-3 base this season and maybe permanently. JT is not going anywhere unless he wants to leave, and I don't think that is the case. He loves it here in Miami, and we love him here. Simple as that.

Toughness. Both mental and physical. This defense has not played well in the playoffs nor have they faired particularly well vs. winning teams during Wannstedt's reign. You can come up with all sorts of reasons and excuses but that is the reality.

Flexibility. When the 3-4 was first mentioned in the newspapers, Taylor or his agent (depending on who you believe) responded negatively. Are the Dolphins even going to use a 3-4? I don't know but that type of reaction wouldn't sit well with any boss.

I don't believe Taylor will be traded or released any time soon. There is too much bonus money to be paid to give the Dolphins much choice.

Taylor is athletic. He relies on technique and just tenacity and quickness. I worry that moving to LB will cost him the advantage of his awe-inspring first step, but he could still likely succeed in that sort of system.

I do, however, expect him to remain an end for 80% of the snaps. It's tough to just expect a ProBowl DE to play out of position. Why move the #1 player in the league as his position to a new one?

That being said, I think he could play WELL as an LB, but I don't think he'd have the kind of impact he has now as a DE. Also, why on earth would you seek to upgrade the RDE spot when you have the best player in the league there? That's like dropping Manning because you want a faster QB. You just don't do it.

If anything, I think Taylor's weakness is his salary. The man is going to be paid a lot of money. But, unlike Surtain, and I think he's a guy we can't really replace right now. Poole is a star talent at CB (or has the talent to be), but we do not have a proven DE to take JT's place. Ogun was good--but nowhere near the player JT is.

I think JT stays around because he's irreplaceable and carries a big cap hit.

ZT, on the other hand, may have to work a little harder. He is a great LB, but he's NOT the best in the league at his position and we DO have up-and-coming talent behind him. But that's another discussion.

It will all be up to JT, if when he renegotiates, he puts his wallet over this team, then he will be gone, but if he continues to think team 1st, he will retire as a Dolphin.

I agree. Saban even claimed that the defense will be built around Taylor and Thomas. I don't think he's pulling a Braylon Edwards on this one.

Secondly during the 1997 draft, there was talk about Taylor being a 3-4 rush OLB (ala another Taylor--Lawrence Taylor) because he was considered too small as a DE. I'm sure someone as athletic and professional as JT could switch to rush OLB in a pinch.

I freaked the first time I saw JT drop back into pass coverage, when Jimmy was the coach. You know what? he did a great job, JT to tall? that all ready went to Ed TOO TALL Jones. Zach TOO SMALL Thomas.JT Matt Roth Chanding Crowder Zach Attack, I can't wait to pick my fantasy D this August!!
