Things are not the same as the Shula days when he was pretty much in charge of everything. We had JJ who was big on D, Cam who was big on O. Saban who was big on DB's, and Soprano who was big on inspiring players (as per JT). Then there was Philbin. Correct me if I am wrong but, here's what I have sorted out on what he did not do, which some seem confused on.

Tannenbaum/Hickey were in charge of personnel decisions.

Lazer, by contract, was in charge of the O.

Coyle was in charge of the D.

Rizzi was in charge of special teams.

While I'm sure Philbin had some input ia all of the above, what does that leave, and what is Campbell actually taking over doing?

Dealing with the media, clock management, supervising other coaches, and inspiring players is all I can come up with.

The same as any other HC they all have multiple assistants.

Sounds like Philbin was not really allowing some of these coaches to actually coach the way they may have wanted. Coyle needs to go, but as far as Lazor is concerned, I liked him in Philadelphia and feel like he may make a lot of changes to his offense that Philbin may not have supported.

He will get the coaches he can rely on like anyone else, be it by retaining or hiring. He will do the yelling and screaming, and coaches will coach. He will have to rely on a lot if ppl to give him quick advice on game management and he will have to step up.

I think the main responsibility of the HC is provide leadership and build unity on the team. A HC gets the final say for practices, meetings, etc...Also, a HC gets to pretty much become as involved or not as he likes in the nitty-gritty details or even the play-calling. I remember Saban was a DB coach so he spent a little extra time with that unit giving his input. Don't be surprised if Campbell stills works with the TE and requests them being targeted more moving forward. Something to keep an eye on.

Not at all what I have seen from many different sources over the last two years.

Many here have complained about play calls and schemes on O and D, which Philbin had little to do with.

Not a fan of his but, have to wonder what a TE coach is gonna do to change things?

The head coach is like a corporate director. He takes input from the managers and makes the final decisions.
On game day, he is responsible to motivate the troops, be able to quickly make correct tactical in game decisions, and to adjust the game plan on the fly.
He also represents and speaks for the team.
That is my take.

Sets the tone which is critical.

Usually teams take on the personality of their coach (as ours did)

Hoping that happens again
