In other words, what's the minimum result that you would be satisfied with if he were retained? An 8-8 finish would be more of the same, but it would mean they went 7-5 under Campbell. I imagine turning this dumpster fire into a winning team (9-7 or better) would be more than enough to want him to come back. Would 7-9, meaning he went .500, be enough?

If he gets this team playing like razor sharp fanatics, regardless of final record, I'd consider giving him a shot.

Less about record more about the team playing better.

Team is just getting manhandled on both sides of the ball.

That's what it will take for the team to consider making him the head coach beyond this season. I still expect an all out search.

IMHO with the talent on this team playing better will show up in the record. .500 season and I can see riding on with Campbell.

The running game needs to show up. The offense needs to score points early. The defense needs to defend. If they finish 7-9 or 8-8 then it means they were .500 or better with Campbell despite a 1-3 record to start.

It's tough to really evaluate anybody under these circumstances. I'm not sure what he could change during the season that would make this team appreciably better. If they compete, show toughness and a different mentality moving forward during games... I'd say if he could beat the teams we're better than on paper and compete against the teams we're not better than on paper I'd keep him.

Tough to say. Personally, right now I want to see the following:

1. He puts the most talented guys on the field.
2. He puts a stop to the ineffective wide receiver screens Lazor is so infatuated with. Run the ball, instead.
3. He runs a more pressure-oriented defense that doesn't give 15 yard cushions on 3rd and 3.
4. He has the team looking like it's actually ready to play in the first half.

Those are four areas in which we can see immediate improvement from the coaching staff. If Campbell recognizes that these are all problem areas for the team that he can address immediately, then he will definitely get my support. It sounds like he understands #1 and #4, so I need to see if he also understands that we have "X's and O's" problems, too.

His 12 game audition starts now.

I want to see the right players being played and put in a position to make plays, I want to see players play hard, both late in the season and our midseason stretch, I want to see us come back from behind and make adjustments. I want to see the players and staff give a ****. I would also like to see us get up to 8-8.... not great, but considering the start we made id take it.

I want to see us ready to play in the first quarter and play hard from the opening kick

Why would you consider a question like that? Have you heard his press conference?
Your philosophy is exactly why we are mediocre. I am glad he does not look for next year. His words were quite clear. He is not aiming at an 8-8 or 9-7 record. He feels we have the talent and he feels he can push them. Hos presser was not about going 8-8. It was about winning now. I measure him by that.

8-8 is not more of the same when you take over at 1-3

Reach playoffs, and as far as I'm concerned, he gets another chance, anything less, it's head coach searching season.

"gets another chance" if he gets this team to the playoffs he is probably a better coach than Shula

He kinda clarified that himself when he said it would mean going 7-5 under Campbell.

But to answer the original Q, for me it's not about the record but more of the team playing together with emotion and ferocity. So far this season, the team is just going through the motions, there is no heart or soul. If we're playing competitive football and the game isn't over before halftime....well that would be a great start! Oh and playcalling. Tired of seeing BS calls that make zero sense! Be creative but be AGGRESSIVE!!!

I want Campbell no matter what happens. A legit shot next year. Nothing special out there. He is in a tough situation. He is about to fire Coyle and Lazor. This won't be easy. Plus we have a tough schedule after Tennessee and Houston.
