After green bay, where did he go? Wiki says hes "pursueing coaching jobs". I dont get why its so hard for him to find a job, he was a really good D-coord. Dolphins were always a top defense under him, and even the packers were a top defense...pass-D-wise.

Hes nowhere now just chillen at home i guess, i feel bad for bates the guy is a good coach that should get a chance somewhere to be HC but never got the opportunity. Players seem to respond to him and respect him. Hope he does well in the future.

I don't see him as an effective HC, kind of like Wade Philips...good DC, cant cut it as the big guy

yeah, i guess he thinks he should be a head coach and wont accept a coordinator job. he should go for head coach at a college

he is a very good DC, I just dont see him as a pro head coach--sorry! I would love to see him take on a college program like a Utah, Bowling Green, N. Texas, something like that to get a foothold and then move up in the college ranks.

KuD-I was thinking the same thing. Get some hard nosed, fast paced Defense back at the U

Someone needs to start a "Miami Hurricanes please hire Jim Bates petition."

I like Jim Bates.

It's kind of amazing, isn't it? Larry Coker has gone 53-9 in 5 seasons, with 3 conference championships, 3 bowl victories, 2 title game appearances, and 1 title. But if the Hurricans have another "sub-par" season he could be in real trouble.

But anyway, I think Jim Bates would be a great college coach. He brought a lot of fire to the Dolphins when he took over in 2004, and got pretty much every ounce of effort he could out of them. And then he did a great job with Green Bay's defense last year.
