I have heard this term used VERY loosely. Can somebody explain what a prototypical "Parcells guy" would be like?

Thanks!

Just my thoughts on it.

-Tough: Doesn't get hurt alot. Rubs some dirt on it and is ready to go.
-Coachable: Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir.
-Loyal: Keeps it in the locker room and presents a united front for everyone outside.
-Team Peer: A guy who "gets" Parcells style football and squashes protests from players who may not be of the same mind who are not used to the program.
-Football Player: A guy who enjoys playing football as a job.

That's my take.

add in, players with above average height/weight/strength/speed or any combination...
Smart football players that don't commit turnovers, understand the game as a student, and are driven leaders that can win important games and get their peers to play better

An overachiever no matter the level of his natural ability (see Meggett and Simms), a winner's mentality, someone who places football skills excellence first and foremost (uh oh Romo) and someone who won't stir up drama or distraction (good riddance to "the Player").

Further insight into Bill's value system can be gleaned from his "11 QB Commandments"

Quarterback commandments:
1. Ignore other opinions – Press or TV, agents or advisors, family or wives, friends or relatives, fans or hangers on - ignore them on matters of football, they don’t know what’s happening here.
2. Clowns can’t run a huddle – don’t forget to have fun but don’t be the class clown. Clowns and leaders don’t mix. Clowns can’t run a huddle.
3. Fat QBs can’t avoid the rush – A quarterback throws with his legs more than his arm. Squat and run.
4. Know your job cold – this is not a game without errors. Keep yours to a minimum. Study.
5. Know your own players – Who’s fast? Who can catch? Who needs encouragement? Be precise. Know your opponent.
6. Be the same guy every day – in condition. Preparing to lead. Studying your plan. A coach can’t prepare you for every eventuality. Prepare yourself and remember, impulse decisions usually equal mistakes.
7. Throwing the ball away is a good play – sacks, interceptions and fumbles are bad plays. Protect against those.
8. Learn to manage the game – personnel, play call, motions, ball handling, proper reads, accurate throws, play fakes. Clock. Clock. Clock. Don’t you ever lose track of the clock.
9. Get your team in the end zone – passing stats and TD passes are not how you’re going to be judged. Your job is to get your team in the end zone and that is how you will be judged.
10. Don’t panic – when all around you is in chaos, you must be the hand that steers the ship. If you have a panic button so will everyone else. Our ship can’t have a panic button.
11. Don’t be a celebrity QB – we don’t need any of those. We need battlefield commanders that are willing to fight it out, every day, every week and every season and lead their team to win after win after win.
...and then there's just that unexplainable chemistry factor:

Some good points, but I was asking more about the PHYSICAL traits.

As was said earlier...Above average size/strength/speed/smarts/instinct in varying combinations. As Vaark said, Meggett was a Parcells guy...But he was tiny. He has speed and instinct, though. Simms was very smart and instinctive. Jumbo Elliot was strong and tough, though not especially instinctive or agile. Just depends really.

Loves football like his own mama............maybe second to her but a close race. Low drama, hard worker....either has skills and wants to work to sharpen them or doesn't have natural skills but is driven to improve the skillset that he does have enough to contribute.

See: Chad Pennington (and his study/work habits)

Parcells always refers to Football as a "big man's game".

I've read he likes his linebackers at least 6'4" 250 lbs

Keep in mind he drafted James Farrior who was 6'2" 234

At the same time though, when he was with the Jets he drafted a 5'8" wide receiver for returns...So, I wouldn't read too much into his size preference.

This is a good question, for every coach we get, I see this phase every time, well this is a Saban's guy, this is a cam guy, and now this is a parcell's guy.. Every coach has wanted tough, strong minded, live football type guys, they all wanted big guys, and they want speed guys, guys who are smart, discipline, and pain guys who can play hurt.. I've seen just about the same things said for every coach.. I think all coaches want the same things except maybe a tampa D team, where they want smaller quicker DT's, other than that, everyone wants tough, big, smart, quick people.. In the 3/4 defense, every team looks for the next LT, Pittsburg has been great in finding those types of LB's forever, the pats have been great at finding the big NT's, and both the pats and Pitts and balt have the right formula for finding great db's. The last 3 years are the first times we've kept our draft picks pretty much and the team as a result is starting to come around. Luckily we've been keeping the same kind of D which helps, Saban started the 3/4, 4-3 mix and we've kept going to the 3/4..so that help with consistency, this year will be the 2nd year in a row that our O won't change and hopefully that helps with some consistency on that side. Now it's finding the best players to make those systems go.

This plus Size! Then Man Loves Big Football Players, at every position.

Smart player that can suck it up when he has too, but will not backdown. I'll never forget watching Simms on the sidelines in a game and BP is shouting at him. Well, most of the time guys would sit there and take the criticism and go on to the next play. Simms, apparently, believed that he had made the correct call and came right back at BP. I think BP really respects that tenacity in a person.
