I don't see absolutely any change in Ireland's demeanor. He brought in Moore and it proved to be quite a good signing, didn't it?

Ross didn't have any nice things to say about Moore up until now. It is ironic that the same guy who wanted to make a big splash by bringing in a new QB is now standing behind the GM and the QB he took a public dump on last year.

As long as teams are able to make sales from all the crap they sell then they could care less if the team sucks. Miami was able to get away with that but not now. In the end these morons like Ross are nothing but business men running the show
like a burger business. I'm not drinking that f***ing kool aid.

I wish someone would post on that worthless blog the fact that Carroll has opened the QB competition up and has not named the Seahawks front office franchise QB Matt Flynn the starter.. Reason being he is likely what most of us on the board and within the Dolphins organization believe to be true, a bad QB.. The fact is he has been the absolute most overrated QB in the league over the past 2 seasons.

Matt Flynn is front runner to be starter in Seattle, but that doesn't translate as he would be instant starter in Miami.

Don't be rude and allow time to prove who's wrong about this. Philbin, Sherman & Ireland evaluated the situation and they assumed that a fair shot for this team would be to resemble a WCO closer to what Sherman installed on Texas A&M, not a Packers' clone. So when our FO talked to Flynn, expressing both Moore and Flynn would have to compete within a new offense, they stayed firm to the idea Moore is a proven starter and Flynn is a project, meaning they won't make a huge investment to hire him, so Flynn was very disappointed and signed with next team on the line, in this case Seahawks.
Philbin knows Matt Flynn isn't ready. He still has a lot to learn and only a monster o-line with fine weapons would make him look like the NFL star that a huge contract implicates.
But you can be sure within the right roster, he should be a few games away of being a top 16 QB on this league and that's an interesting achievement. But as today Seattle doesn't looks like such roster.

So unless Matt Moore or Ryan Tannehill can develop into premiere QB before Flynn, there's going to be speculation about Philbin's choice.

In my eyes, Miami made an incorrect negotiation because Matt Flynn was anxious to rejoin his former OC, and I'm pretty sure he could have agreed to a very cap-friendly contract and even accept to teach Ryan Tannehill as a brother. But Ireland's nasty style wasted such chance.

Think about such scenario: Matt Moore wins after competing with Flynn, both help each other to improve and Tannehill develops in better situation. After Miami lose any chance to get into playoff, Flynn is named starter and finishes his developing process. On 2013 Moore is a free agent and Dolphins move for a then ready Matt Flynn, with Tannehill pushing for starting, so both young men develop on parallel leading to mutual improvement and you would have the QB position solved for years.

Instead of that, our reality marks we're going to rush Ryan Tannehill to be ready in some months, when our team has no chance for playoffs.

The media need stories...they also need characters. Ross filled the role with the handling of the Harbaugh situation, and the media hasn't let go yet because they "need" Ross and the Dolphins. Even a pretty good season will likely alleviate some of this nonsense.

he's also in typical ESPN fashion underqualified and uncredentialed. It's worse than our own local morons, who at least have some sort of degree, maybe even journalism instead of self-attributing to have "attended" a university... and would be like a reporter on Melbourne (FL) paper covering the Fins, or one in Scranton covering the Eagles. My point is for whatever reason, just because he was plucked out of obviously deserved obscurity by BSPN, doesn't at all infer that he knows his azz from his elbow.

Can Ross ever say anything and not have people dissect it into a negative story? It is also funny that this story went from Ross saying he thinks Moore will probably start to the video headline on NFL.com being "Moore to start week 1 for Fins".

The bashing of Ross and over analyzing of every little thing he says to make a headline is extremely old. I know myself and others who have taken exception to this lately are considered "homers" and people laugh when they hear that people think the media is out to get one specific team. I am actually starting to think that is indeed the case. Ross made some early mistakes and it seems that people want to keep up the image that Ross is this bumbling idiot that knows nothing about running a football team. There is a huge difference between flying to meet Harbaugh with Sparano still as head coach and him answering a question about who will start and saying he "thinks" Moore probably will. Yet both stories get just as many headlines and viewed almost the same.

Ross failed to hire Jim Harbaugh, kept around a lame duck coach (who you defended to the last day btw) a year too long, and refuses to fire a GM who has proven incapable of putting a winning product on the field.

I'll wait and see what happens this year, and I hope the outcome is a tremendous 12-4 season and a deep playoff run. That being said, if you're judging past performance, which is all you have to go on at this point, you have to blame incompetence on the guy who hired the incompetent employees almost as much as you blame the coaches and GM.

I think Harbaugh and Fisher would absolutely have turned down Jones... They don't want their boss making personnel moves for them. They wanted autonomy and that's why they aren't Fins coaches right now and Harbaugh wanted to stay on the WC. I can't fault Ross for sticking to that MO for his team. It's obvious that's the way he wants it... Flynn would have gone to any team that offered him a starting job. The Fins didn't do that. They told him it would be a competition and MMoore didn't have a bad season last year either. He went with more money and less competition in Seattle. As bad as Ross seems a lot of the time, he's a kitten compared to Jones.

Ross' biggest problem is keeping his ugly face out of the press. He thrives on that aspect of his responsibility as an NFL owner. He's getting better and learning but still wags his tongue a bit too much for my taste in owners. The best owners, IMHO, will leave the interviews and speculation about the team to Coach and GM. Ross hasn't learned that yet, but he's the owner and run things the way he wants to. So when he does open that hole under his nose, the press will jump on it and even harder since we aren't very successful right now...When we start to win again, the criticism will fall off...

Well, lets decide what Ross actually said...he said that it was likely that MMoore would start the season, probably based on the fact that he's earned that opportunity to be called the incumbent starter based on his performance last year. Is that such a wrong statement to make ?? Even tho I think he should leave the football discussions to his football people, he didn't make any wild predictions here...


He failed to get Harbaugh, but did he fail because he didn't try to get him or he bungled the interview process or he insisted that Harbaugh would not get autonomy here or was it really because Harbaugh wanted to stay on the WC more than anything...?? Harbaugh was not leaving the WC without a perfect setup for what he envisioned. Ross decided he wanted a GM to be in charge of the personnel and that shut the door on both Harbaugh and Fisher...so what ?? Who's to say that Harbaugh would have the same success here ??

Yes, he kept a lame duck coach here and yes because of how he went about the Harbaugh thing, he created that 'lame duck' situation. He put the organization and Sparano in a tough spot. However, faced with the labor unrest and lockout, would you have changed the organization as it was either ?? I know I wouldn't have. The best thing for the franchise at that moment was to leave things intact and see how it played out... We know the rest now. But changing everything up last offseason would have set the organization back even further. It was a necessary move or non-move [as it were] to make.

Ross has made some mistakes and he's/we've paid for them, but the fact still remains he the MFWIC. You want things differently, fork up the $1 B or so and run the team your way...
