I know he was plaged with injurys this season and missed three games. But him not living up to his expectations really hurt our team last season. We lost Kevin Carter who was a very productive player for us, but I it didnt bother me too much because I thought Roth was going to step in a be a pro bowl type player. What happend???? And do you think he can live up to some of his expections when healthy??

First off, what made you think that he would be a Pro Bowl caliber player? Also, exactly what expectations do you have for him?

I think that maybe the reason you're disappointed is because your expectations were too high. He's never going to be a sack monger. He's more of a power guy that is fairly solid against the run and will get a handful of sacks at best.

Acctually, I remember many Finheaven discussions that had Matt Roth and Pro-Bowl type player being mentioned. In limited action the past couple years he showed can get to the QB. I watched him play two times against the Badgers in college and he looked like he could be a productive pass rusher in the NFL. He was projected by many to be a first round pick but his 40 time at the combine hurt his draft stock. I was so excited when he fell to the Dolphins in the second round. I dont think its a strech to say he hasnt lived up to his expectations.

Matt Roth is just in there to stop the run. In my opinion he looks slow coming off the edge. I don't know why but i don't see him getting double digit sacks year in and year out. we need to upgrade our Dline to help out our mediocre secondary. It feels like the last time we had a pass rush was when Taylor and Wale Ogunleye were on opposite sides.

he has been a huge disappointment. i thought around 7-10 sacks this season for sure with porter over there. porter not blitzing hurt a lot. when players lack size like roth does, they usually have that burst off the line - which he does not have. i dont ever see him being anything more than a backup. but who knows, maybe last season will motivate him to do better.

Matt Roth was a victim of injuries, and poor defensive coaching if you ask me. If the coaches would let Joey Porter do what he did in Pittsburgh then the Fins D would be more open on all fronts.

Hopefully under Big Tuna they will unleash the d a bit more.

I never anticipated Roth being any better than what we saw this past year..... there were so many people on this site excited when we drafted him. I think he has become a better player.... But between him and Jason Taylor, you can see how having longer arms makes a big difference in keeping offensive lineman off of you, despite doing whatever martial arts he did.
Roth seems like he would be a better DT than a DE... I like his hustle, intensity and work ethic....but I'd much rather have an "Ogunleye or David Bowens or Kevin Carter" than a Matt Roth as a DE. I sure do miss the days of Trace Armstrong being opposite of Jason Taylor. I don't see being here after his contract is up

I can see that...but I don't think he has the athleticism or hips to be good in space. I know Lamar Woodley from Michigan has made a good transition with the Steelers, but I just can't see that happening with Roth

Matt Roth was the one player that I hoped we wouldn't pick. His upside was a tick above average, and it's not like he was the most polished DE out there.

I would bet most anyone Dolphin fan would love to see Chris Long from Univ. of Virginia replace Matt Roth...both are about the same weight now and I think there's a bigger upside with Long....who I'm pretty sure has longer arms/longer reach that T-Rex Roth. I dont' know if Long is worth the first overall pick....and I know that alltogether goes in Draft/college forum.

Can't really compare Roth and Long, Long is more comparable to JT than he is to Roth.

.....and Chris Long is worth the #1 overall pick.

well he is a second round draft pick. and in limited time he has showin that he can be a productive pass rusher. call what you will but he has been a dissapointment
