I understand that there are still many cuts to be made but apparently we are 21 million over the 2006 cap. Even if we cut everyone we can and should cut I don't see how we could possibly save 40 + mil in cap space. Wasn't it just a few weeks ago there was a big thing made of how the fins were going to be about 25 mil under the cap and in great shape to make a splash in free agency? This is very dissapointing and I don't see how we could be more than 5-10 mil under this year. What happened between a few weeks ago and now cap experts?

The 25 million under was an urban legend started by some writer that people beleived because they wanted it to be true. For us to have ever goten that far under the cap we would have had to cur far to much out of this team. Mueller has been consitsantly saying somthing in the 10 to 14 mill under ranger for months. However that was before we knew that there would be no CBA (if that turns out to be true) which pushed lots of incentives into this years cap.

The orginal statement was already pretty optimistic and it assumed that a new CBA would likely be reached. Since it doesn't look like that will happen, we are in a much tighter bind. While I am not sure of the technicallities of it, basically any incentive that is put into a players contract will count against the cap for this year making it much harder to sign free agents and keep players that we already have.

it was projected with a cba in effect

No, I don't think that is accurate. Because even with the new cba in effect, they would still be over a little bit. So where did all that cap space they were talking about in the middle of the season go?

Incentives due from previous years!! I believe. Had an agreement been reached the cap was projected aorund 10 to as high as 110 mill, now it's between 92-95 mill, therefore we won't have the cap space. Again...I believe.

all the money we gave to Ronnie and others are now due. This estimate was with the current CBA being extended I believe. It was done with the current because nobody had any idea what the new CBA would bring.

It's called "6-game winning streak to finish season at 9-7." A bunch of players had nearly $10 million in "not likely to be earned" incentives that were earned when we beat New England in Foxboro. That caused Miami's salary cap for 2006 to be reduced by that $10 million.

With no CBA, come tomorrows deadline, 13 teams become in serious trouble and were one of them, you will see masssive salary cuts from these teams. A lot of those teams will go from contenders to pretenders......This is not good for us, pray for a deal to be reached tomorrow.
