Culpepper's stats appear to be very impressive. Last year (2005) was obviously a down year for him, but before that, he was consistently putting up Pro Bowl-type numbers. Every year but 2002.

2001 was a relatively down year for Daunte as well, but he was injured for a large portion so it was somewhat understandable. However, in 2002, Daunte was completely healthy, and had RB Michael Bennett and WR Randy Moss both completely healthy as well (and putting up career numbers). But, Daunte somehow ended the season with 23 interceptions and only 18 TD's. He had a (relatively) dismal QB rating of 75.3. He still put up an amazing 3800 passing yards, but for some reason his stats fell short where it really counted.

Could a Vikings fan, or someone educated in Culpepper's career explain what happened in 2002? Was their pass-blocking absolutely horrible? Michael Bennett put up nearly 1300 yards rushing so their line couldn't have been ALL that bad.

The Madden curse is 100% efficient too. Seriously.

And I'm not playing either. You guys know I'm Finheaven's Token Black Guy who'd make some type of smart comment @ a post like that if it wasn't for real.

If I am not mistaken, I believe that was Daunte's first year under linehan's system. I guess there was somewhat of a learning curve he had to go through. But notice how his numbers increase in 2003 and 2004. Then 2005 comes, he has to learn yet another system, his numbers go down. Luckily for us, he will be using the Linehan system that he thrived on in 2004, and he will have a wider array of weapons in which to slaughter opposing defenses. Oh yes, destruction is imminent.:tank:

He also had 10 TDs rushing and alot of rushing yards.

Probably the main cause was the McKinnie(left tackle) holdout and learning a new offensive system. After those things were settled the vikes one 3 straight games, hurting a couple of playoff contenders chances(the Saints and the Dolphins) and continued that momentum the next year winning 6 straight.

You're supposed to smile, stay out of the conversation, and say things like damn!, ****!, and That is whack!

:rolleyes2:sidelol:

2002 was Meathead Tice's "Randy Ratio" fiasco - where Daunte was asked to force the ball into Moss. His numbers picked up once the Ratio was scrapped.

I think Daunte's numbers in 2001 were also impacted by the fact that Todd Stessiue left via free agency and Korey Stringer died in training camp - so they lost their two starting tackles. The year before they had lost two all pro linemen via free agency - so in 2 years they lost 4 of their 5 starting linemen.

The death of Korey Stringer stunned the whole team I think. I remember that year. The team in general kind of imploded.
