With the addition of Quinn wasn't this team suppose
to have an awesome pass rush?

Wake,Quinn, and Harris have played 646 defensive snaps with 2 sacks combined...William Hayes has the same amount of sacks (2) as the 3 players above and he only played 64 snaps before IR.

A huge disappointment so far this season
and if we continue in this direction we may have
decisions to make regarding our defensive ends

Wake's a free agent and Quinn is owed $12,932,332
next year with NO dead cap hit if released

If this trend continues with an anemic pass rush
what would you do next season?

Great question and alarming. I don't know what to say other than it did disappear and if it doesn't come back we have to cut ties with both got somebody who can.

Well, I know I've said this before but DE should be our top priority this coming off season. Wake is pretty much done imo. He's a free agent and for those who think he should be a pass rush specialist.........that's what he's been his whole career!!
Hayes is older and yet hurt again which is a shame cause he's a good player but I'd not count on him again.
Branch needs to go after this season with his contract and he's a jag
Harris was just a bad pick but we'll probably keep him as he's on a rookie deal.

Having said that, Burke is not helping matters. He had Baker blitzing in the Bengals game and had two sacks. Since then Baker has not blitz. If you can't get there with your front 4 then you need to try bringing guys but instead we're playing soft zone which when you have no pass rush that zone will get killed all day long.

Last but not least, if you can't stop the run then you can't rush the passer. The lions didn't even have to be on 3rd down cause they were getting 9 yards per run on first down.

We keep talking about the DE position, but where are our promising DTs? they seem to have disappeared as of late

Hate to say it, but wake staid one year too many. Personally, I think if Wake had 5 sacks. Quinn and Harris would have 3-4. Just like Mack and Miller make life easier for the other DLmen. Like others, I also blame Burke. Doesn't even blitz on blitzing downs. Not even sure he has the D FAKE a blitz. To be fair, I don't know if that's Burke or if he's going by the limitations Gase has given him. And all that's with at least two games our DEs were supposed to "feast" on the opponents OL.
I admit, I have no idea what the problem is. It can't be fast releases by the QBs - they seem to have 3-4 seconds.

To be fair Wake has been hurt for the majority of the season & from what I've read Quinn is getting a lot of double teams, which would make a lot of sense since Wake has been hurt. Wouldn't surprise me if they both turned it around soon
It certainly would surprise me.

Davon Godchaux played 47 snaps 73.4%
and gave us exactly ZERO TACKLES

Taylor played 23 snaps with 2 tackles

Akeem Spence played 41 snaps with

3 solo tackles and 3 assists

Branch had 29 snaps with 2 tackles

Pittman played 15 snaps with a big goose egg

Wake played 37 snaps with another goose egg

Quinn played 37 snaps with 1 tackle and 1 assisted tackle

Malveaux played 27 snaps with 1 tackle

That's a sad defensive front

Damon Harrison was traded for a 5th rounder
and has been the best run stopper for the past 4 years
Detroit got a steal

Before Wake got hurt we were getting pressure but after that teams doubled Quinn and we haven't been able to make them pay consistently

When Hayes went down is when this D started to circle the drain. Likewise on offense, when Sitton went down they started circling the drain.

Well if your units are circling the drain because you lost a 32 year old guard and a 33 year old DT/DE, what does that say about your offense and defense to begin with?

Outstanding post.

Miami got rid of players that can make plays in the backfield themselves or occupy blockers allowing for other players to get pressure, not that it was anything special.

But the good news is the DL has good chemistry now.
