I was just thinking, although I concede that I was not able to watch the Broncos game, that we are not throwing to the RBacks that much, and when we have, I've seen Sammy Morris or Heath Evans more involved in the passing game than Ronnie. And I remember that everyone said that he had amazing hands. Part of it is that he was late to camp i am sure. But even Sammy and Heath are not used much, we throw much more to the WR, what happened with establishing the long pass, and then looking for the RB in the flat?

I honestly think we should try that more next game, I don't think we will be able to run on that defense very well (although I hope Ronnie and the line step it up, I still see it to be unlikely) So why dont we do the dink and dunk pass to the RB so that they dont blitz as much, and they dont just go back deep?

I was thinking the same thing but I was going to wait a couple more games to mention something about it.

It's only been two games, give them some time.

I thought we were going to throw the ball downfield more. But I guess when your offensive line doesn't give you time run deep patterns, then it makes it rather difficult.

There are "tempo" tools the offense could utilize to negate ineffective pass blocking until Huock has the line up to speed.... and I'm wondering why we haven't seen any....

delayed draw plays, screen passes, hurry up offense....

If correctly utilized they can slow down a fast penetrating defense.... also, if you can run the hurry up well enough, you can not only slow down a pass rush, but you can wear our the front 4 quicker. I see us as more of a pass-to-setup-the-run team. I would expect more of the above techniques deployed in the coming weeks. Especially with Ricky returning. While Ronnie is advertised as having great hands, we all know Ricky has a decent pair of mitts and he has proven effective on check downs.

It would be a good idea considering Ronnie's versatility. Obviously he has receiving skills as displayed in his college days. Maybe, just maybe, if he can contribute successfully to our receiving game, defenses won't be as quick to "stack the deck" against him when he's running the ball. Of course, the receivers need to step up as well, especially Chambers, and start making some catches instead of coming up with the "dropsies" in key situations.

Great post.

I agree completely. I would have liked to see these "Tempo tools" (I like that ;)) a little bit against the Jets, but for whatever reason we didn't utilize them. They will be crucial against the Carolina defense. Our offense had such great rythm against the Bronco's, but lacked it during the Jets game. Running draws and screens is a great way to keep the defense off-balance and off your quarterback.

I think getting Ronnie catches would one help his confidence, two make some yards after the catch, and break some tackles.

i think so too. i also think we need to get him in space and let him create or just simply bulldoze

we threw screens and flat passes to our backs against the jets. they were just so poorly set up that they ended up being wasted plays

Agreed! The coaching staff needs to use him to create mis-matches on the opposing defenses, and when Gus picks it up at the line, he needs to make them pay for the mis-match.:beerbang:

I think it has a lot to do w/ our pass protection.
It seems the RB, and many times the TE has to stay in to block.

we ran hurry up offense against the Broncos

We had some success in several of these areas against Denver...we didnt have much success in anything in the Jets game.
