I am a little shocked reading some of the other posts here where people are saying that we could have had this player in the draft or this player instead of picking Roth, Daniels etc. One example being Kyle Orton (QB).

What confuses me is how many posters say they love Roth, he was a great pick, etc.

All I have seen from him so far is a great motor. Too bad that motor hasn't gotten him anywhere (hardly) as of yet on the playing field. Now, I am not ready to say the guy is a bust. Maybe all he needs to do is learn better techniques and gain some stength. I'm just surprised how many posters love this guy already. He has not set the world on fire yet? Please explain...maybe it is something posters are seeing in practice???

Roth was a monster in college because he could just bull rush the OT for a sack. He can't do that in the NFL, so that is why he isn't doing anything yet. The only thing that Roth needs to work and learn on is his technique and alittle bit of his strength. It could take him a year to be a good DE in the NFL. I wouldn't worry at all about Roth right now. He just needs some time.

Hopefully, you are right. I don't really remember JT setting the world on fire his first yr either.

Really this topic is more of the surprise I have for the "love" he is getting already...not so much that I don't think he will at least be a good DL for us in the future.

Taylor had a very good rookie year. He started 13 games, had 5 sacks, 30 tackles, forced 2 fumbles.

Dude. We are playing our 4th pre season game, why don't you make this post again in a year or two.

Every year, a lot of posters on this board have a love fest for some player. Last year it was Tony Bua and Fred Russell. Hopefully, Roth will do something to garner the affection of the rest of the board than just starting fights.

I guess you missed the hyperlink of him in college games...Very impressive and after all what else have we to go on...apparently Saban was impressed.Anyone still have that highlight?

He has played FINE! He has a sack, and almost had another in the HOF game. He brings the intensity and fire that this team has sorely lacked for the entire Wanny JJ era. Please- Orton has had a good preseason, but dont be so quick to start the "We should have drafted ORTON! WAH WAH WAH!!" Threads. Matt Schaub and Ron Dayne have also been good, should we have traded a 1st for Schaub and signed Dayne instead of drafting Ronnie? Puhleeze.

Once again, I am not saying that I don't think the guy will be good. Just in those other threads posters said "It would take time for Kyle Orton to be a good QB" That Roth was a much better choice.

And, come to think of it, at least Kyle Orton has looked really good in 2 pre season games at a tougher position. Roth has had at least 3 and hasn't done much.

Thanks for not hitting me over the head like all the others that have posted here. All I am saying is people love this guy already, prior to looking even average yet. I just wondered where it was coming from?

His sack was more of a coverage sack than anything he did...other than have a continuous motor. I do like that he has a mean streak..It reminds me of Bryan Cox. Hopefully he can control it better than Cox however. Cox kept gettting us costly penalties.

Thanks for the info. I was going off of memory and thought it was just an OK season for him. He had to work on a few things also.

Exactly. He's looked good in 2 pre season games.

Which means absolutely nothing.

To value picks in this years draft right now is like throwing darts in the dark. Roth was an excellent DE in college and that's the only thing you can really evaluate.

Hey Perfect,
I'm not going to hit you over the head or anything like that:D I really didn't see a lot from Roth except a nice motor in the first few preseason games, which I only saw on TV. I went to the Pittsburgh game last week and paid close attention to hime live and came away with the belief that he will be a special player for us for a long time. He was creating havoc against anyone he faced at tackle eventhough they were bigger than him (i.e. Max Starks). He put a constant pressure in the backfield against both run or pass, first team or 2nd. I saw more so live than what you see on tv where his non stop motor is going to be a drive killer in the end for the offense we face. You may see him get knocked to the ground, but he's wright backup and on the chase again. He refuses to stay down until the plays dead and that characteristic is going to make him a scary player for the opposition for a very long time.

Sorry it was sol long of a post, but I just wanted to give you the reasons that Roth has made a believer out of me.
