Yah I said it. If we went 7-5 the remainder of the season and ended up with a .500 record, I'd be happy. Campbell to me, at that point, would be a proven winner with a difficult schedule and impossible situation handed to him. If he can come out of that with a winning record as coach, he deserves his props and should have a job at HC unless Ross can convince someone like a Gruden or Cowher to replace him.
If they finish 9-7 (maybe make the playoffs), there's no way I'd replace him. The guy has "it."
You have to have the players to be a winner and we dont, especially on defense.
Not every issue on this team is due to lack of motivation. We have a lot of guys who just are not good enough, shepherd, thomas, misi, fox, aikens, bowman, brice mccain. Some who have severe flaws in their over all game, mitchell, wake and vernon are not worth a chit at stopping the run, this year or last year.
The team is down and became unmotivated because it became apparent to them when the real games started that this team was not loaded enough yet to be a playoff contender. It was a cold slap to the face after such an emotional, promising off season and camp. Picking on teams in pre season who didnt game plan for them. When teams did start game planning, it was a nightmare.
People are puting demands and expectations on campbell that he or any other coach could achieve. He doesnt have the players this year to win. In my opinion, if he can get this team 4 more wins, he should be a strong candidate for coach of the year.
I like coach campbell, a lot, and weather he wins many more games or not, i wish he would get the h/c gig with a fresh offseason, draft and camp along with a remake of this defense. If ross and the fans are hanging wins on him to evaluate, they picked the wrong year.

So, he would have to have a +2 winning record, with a team he didn't assemble, with an offense/defense scheme not of his choosing, with a coaching staff he has inherited for the most part, with no off-season to implement his culture...
Seems like a far assessment.
Extremely well put. Nice post.
