I think since Ireland was blushing after he made the comment, I believe he did accidentally let it out that we're looking at defense with the 1st pick. I think we'll draft Vernon Gholston. Gholston is a freak athlete who has the ability to take over a game from the DE or OLB position. I think Parcells believes we can light a fire under Gholston to have him perform at his best every week. In my opinion we may have cooled on Jake Long and feel we can get a decent left tackle prospect in Round 2 anyway.

i totally agree with u

I think you may be right...blushing is hard to fake. I like Gholston, but I'm a bit more iffy about picking him at #1 since he really is more of a "boom or bust" guy compared to Jake Long, who's a relatively safe pick. I hope all that Vitamin S stuff people joke about doesn't come true...it won't be very funny if it happens to us.

#1 i think it was an accident too

#2 jake was a smoke screen if the rumors are true and we haven't negotiated with Chris yet. Especially if he (Chris) came out today and said he has had no contact with the dolphins and then proceeded to say he didn't care how much money he made. If I was to go with the overused term of smokescreen, this would be it. I just watched an episode of NFL live on ESPN between the Rockies 22nd inning of work (go rockies at 2am) and it showed his decisions in multiple situations in multiple gap coverages and how he preformed. They made him look like what I have thought of him all along, and oversized Zach Thomas at OLB. No doubt in my mind after everything I have watched and then this that he is our #1 pick. With Dorsey not fitting a 3/4, Ghoulston disappearing in games, Ryan wanting more than he is worth (he is a Qb, there is a premium for them at #1), and Jake Long being questionable athletic wise for a LT (a beast, but he is what he is) , chris just makes that much more sense on so many levels

I dont know what to believe anymore ...

Unless we strike a contract with someone before the draft, i wont be 100% convinced on anybody before Goodell reads out who we've selected.

He had a stupid grin on his face the whole time, and it wasn't until after he made the remarks about "defense" that it left his face.

Also I watched the video I dodn't see any blushing on his face.

Therefore it was a smokescreen all the way... :)

Here's the thing......does it really matter either way??

So what if he tips their hand, unintentionally as a ruse, we are drafting first. Is someone going to jump in front of us to grab the guy they think we want? No. Not possible. So what if we make a team think (right or wrong) that we want a defensive player....it will make half the teams think we might take their guy, and the other half of the teams think we are NOT taking their guy.

It's news ONLY because everyone wants to know who they are going to take.....but almost completely unimportant as far as the gamesmanship of the draft goes.

what about the fact that we already have two very talented and expensive OLB's on the team. I'm not saying they won't take him, but if they do it will be about $100 million devoted to one position.

I think it may be Gholston also, and that scares me a little. I think he could be a Hall of Fame player and someone we can really build around, or he could be a complete bust. He is a verk risky player to take at #1. Not sure how I feel about that.

Yeah, I'm with you on that, love the potential, but it scares you when you hear OSU fans saying he disapeared sometimes.

I haven't seen him play much for some reason, does anybody have any insight as to why he disapeared? Did teams intentionally play away from him or double him?
