Drew Brees as opposed to Daunte Culpepper. Sure, there have been 1 million threads on this topic, and this is just another one. However, I ask you to take into account this.
Drew Brees - wants 10 million a year. IMO, not worth it. Given his injury to his THROWING ARM, makes it scary to invest that much money. And one factor that I find very important. He's in limbo of which team to join. Whether it's the money, location, w.e it is. He's obviously not sold on either team.
Daunte Culpepper - 2nd round pick might be a lot for a QB who's knee was completely torn and probably won't play till season after this one. However, when healthy, he is a perenial pro bowl QB. His arm is a cannon, and he's a pure athlete. That will probably change after he rehabs from his injury. Most important, he wants to come to Miami. He doesn't want to meet with other teams (read a report he told the Titans no untill we decide) untill he knows he's not in our plans anymore.
So, do you want a pro bowl QB that will be at the cost of a pretty penny, injured throwing shoulder, that isn't sold on Miami? Or, the pro bowl QB, that's sold on Miami, busted knee, and could likely be out till 2007? Me personally, think Culpepper has a better arm, and is a better athlete. However, the objective in the game is to win in the present, and I don't think he can contribute to that. But I'm not pshyched to give a guy 7-10 million per when he's not sold on coming here till he sees some more $.
In the end, who wants to be in Miami more? Daunte...I'm in favor for the player who wants to be here. While both QB's have their positives, they both have negatives. I think we can agree, when their both healthy, they are elite QB's in this league, and right now we're choosing which diamond is more polished. A luxury many teams in this league would love to have.
