ive been asking myself the question what if we resigned gus. he is the best statistical quarterback we had since marino, and he had pretty good success as a quarterback on this team. i think saban was so caught up in the whole harrington is better then he seems and daunte's knee isn't that bad thing that he didn't feel the need to sign the only fairly good passer since marino. i think we would have had a little more success last year, hard to tell though.

Yes I wanted Ferrotte back last year I wanted him more then Culpepper.

A better scenario to think about is what if we had just forked over the cake and signed Drew Bress..

But hindsight is 20/20..

I agreed with you until you said he was our best statistical quarterback.

In the five years Fiedler was here, four of these years contained a better passer rating. The fifth year was 2004, and we all know how that went.

Frerotte would have been nice to have. He is old, but he hasn't started enough to have wear and tear. His familiarity with the receivers, especially Chambers, would have helped. One of the problems with Harrington is that he didn't get any experience with the receivers.

that was also when our defense was completely stacked, our line could actually block half decently, and when we had ricky williams in the backfield, 2 years atleast

Okay. But the original poster said statistical. Passer rating is statistical.

EDIT: Oh, you are the original poster. Ha. I will agree with you that Gus Frerotte was better than Fiedler, but not statistically. Thats why Gus is able to find work right after being cut.

What if we drafted Drew Brees? What if we drafted Randy Moss?

I thought he never gave us the chance....he wanted to follow Lienahan and did just that. It was only a 1 yr contract with an option for a 2nd year. He never lets us exercise the option.

There was absolutely no need to sign Joey Harrington last year. We had a much better option in Frerotte already on the team. Big mistake by Saban.

Well if we would have done that then we wouldn't have Ted ginn on our team right now because he'd be gone by the time we picked in the 1st round. Frerotte would have won us more games, I have little doubt about that, heck Rosenfels prolly woulda won us more games.

stop with the what if, you can only look ahead

We wouldn't have had Culpepper, we would have used that 2nd round pick we spent on this crappy QB for a franchise left tackle named Marcus McNeil, and had our left and right side set for years with McNeil and Carey.

Also, wouldn't it have been great to draft the Auburn left tackle for our Auburn franchise running back?

"he is the best statistical quarterback we had since marino"
-- Prove it. I count 5 guys with better statististics; I'd rather have Rosenfels than Frerotte.

Qb ratings:
Jay Fiedler(2000-2003) - 72.4 to 85.2
Sage Rosenfels (2005) - 81.5
Damon Huard(1999) - 79.8
Cleo Lemon(2006) - 77.6
Dante Culpepper(2006) - 77.0
Gus Frerotte(2005) - 71.9
Brian Griese(2003) - 69.2
Joey Harrington(2006) - 68.2
