The phins could make a couple of deals that would win us The Superbowl next season, but not even get us a sniff for 10-15 years, or we build to a win in 3-5 years with a team that could go on a Patriot type dynasty run?

I ask this because most seem to be looking at QB's and trying to move-up in the draft, while I still see a team that needs to improve on the O line and get younger on the D side of the ball.

I don't believe that Gus is our savior, but without a great O line, it doesn't matter who is QB...

There is no reason at all that it has to be one or the other.

you can work on both the o-line and quarterback. In fact, we have to and we will.

How many freakin years should we wait to draft a QB. we have passed on so many possbilities its frustrating and we sign crap like fielder and frerotte to be our starters.

fiedler wasnt all that bad! playcalling was horrible....but Fiedler was a good QB

3rd best winning percentage while he was a starter...sorry you cant be mediocre and achieve that

Dolphins will have money in the cap to adress most of our problems being Qb or O-line, you forgot to add secondary because we all know if we had a solid secondary we might be playing next week. Here is what i found to be able to give you a little bit on where we might upgrade and who's available

The list of impending NFL free agents is out, and there's mixed news for the Dolphins, who will have more than $10 million in cap space, and potentially as much as $25 million. Though Miami should be able to upgrade on defense, particularly the secondary, it shouldn't expect to acquire long-term answers at left tackle or quarterback through free agency. Some thoughts:
• Assuming San Diego keeps Drew Brees and Houston picks up David Carr's option (as expected), that would leave Arizona's Josh McCown and Kurt Warner, Cincinnati's Jon Kitna and Detroit's Jeff Garcia as the best of a weak free agent group. None of those four is clearly better than Gus Frerotte, who's signed through 2006. Possible releases include Tampa Bay's Brian Griese, Oakland's Kerry Collins and New Orleans' Aaron Brooks.

• Upgrading over Damion McIntosh at left tackle will be difficult before the draft. The free agent list is lousy, with the best options being Detroit's Jeff Backus, Philadelphia's Jon Runyan and Denver's Matt Lepsis.

• Looking to upgrade over Sam Madison and Reggie Howard at cornerback, the Dolphins will study a free agent list, including Oakland's Charles Woodson, Chicago's Jerry Azumah, the Giants' Will Allen, Minnesota's Brian Williams and Buffalo's Nate Clements.

There are several good safeties available, such as Minnesota strong safety Corey Chavous. There's likely a need to improve over Travares Tillman and injured Tebucky Jones at strong safety, but Miami will be fine at free safety if Lance Schulters re-signs.

• Figure on Miami signing at least one veteran linebacker to replace Junior Seau. A deep list includes San Francisco's Julian Peterson and Carolina's Will Witherspoon.

• With the emergence of Chris Chambers -- who's signed through 2009 -- there's no need to overpay for a free agent like Indy's Reggie Wayne. ESPN's Chris Mortensen predicts Terrell Owens will be a Dolphin next season but said off-air he has no inside information to support that. A friend of Owens tells us Miami appeals to him.

Several big-name receivers past their prime -- including Buffalo's Eric Moulds, St. Louis' Isaac Bruce and Jacksonville's Jimmy Smith -- could be cap casualties, and would be worth a look at the right price.

I would love to get Clements here.

Our Offensive line can be udgraded tremedously in FA by:

LT: Mike Pearson
G: Toniu Fonoti, Steve Hutchinson
C: LeCharles Bentley

Safety: Chris Hope (a FS but a huge upgrade over Shulters...we do need CB and SS)

CB: Nate Clements would be great

I'll take part of A and B, and I agree with what you said in part C ;)

Two things - Fiedler was not a good QB. He was alright, did adequate only because he was gutsy.

Secondly if Joey Harrington is our QB next year I will shoot myself in the face.

Kerry Collins has done didly squat for the Raiders. I wouldn't think that to be much of an upgrade for us. When i watched the Redskins play the other day they said that L Arrington would be leaving due to Washingtons cap. he could be a possible upgrade at LB

Superstar QB's are the most highly over rated thing in football

You know how many teams have 'Their guy' and still cant win?

We had Marino and only went to 1 and actually won 0

Id rather have a QB that manages the game and a great TEAM, than a superstar QB and below average team

Sure you could, take away the great defensive play during those years for Fiedler, and his winning % become Mediocre (at best), still loved the guys heart and toughness though.
