What if Brees isn't signed by Saban ?? What if he visits and the fit isn't good or his arm is still questioned by our doctors or whatever....??

I am not as enamored with Brees as most seem to be on this forum. I care even less about Culpepper...IMO, I'd rather see Ramsey or McCown with Croyle, Whitehurst or Jacobs as the backup for a year or so than take a chance with either Brees or Culpepper because of their respective injuries...

But, how bad will it be if we don't get Brees or Culpepper in your alls opinions ??

I would much rather take a chance with Brees or Culpepper than go with Ramsey or McCown. They can still draft Jacobs or Whitehurst also.

I agree... I am not that excited about Brees either. All you here about is the Fins going back to the passing game down the field. Brees' does not have a strong arm and I would also like to see Ramsey with Croyle in the draft.

I just figure that there will be thousands of hearts breaking if we don't sign him for some reason..I'd hate to see my fellow FinHeavener's hearts break but it could very well happen....

If we don't get Bree's we go after Culpepper!

Brees will be good. Yeah he does have inconsistencies when playing harder teams but he's still young. Mcowan or ramsey has wanny written all over it. Huard, feely, fiedler, lucas, ie ie ie. we need a great qb to take this team anywhere and brees is a blessing from the football gods. he is proven, young and recovering nicely from the surgery. we had our shot at drafting a qb last year, but unfortunalty there was no talent at the position. Anytime a qb of brees' nature comes available, we need to get him. period. that would be wasted opportunity.

if we don't get him. i still think we will have a good team, i mean we had a good team with gus at the helm. but we would have a chance to be great with brees at the helm

no we dont, im pretty sure saban isnt gonna want somone that can not come in a play for the 1st half of the season

As far as I'm concerned I trust Nick's decision. If he thinks Brees is the guy for the job, then I'm all for it. Regardless of who we end up with, I think Nick will get the best guy for the job.

My question for you is this, why do you want to "settle" for second-tier QBs (Ramsey and McCown) instead of a pro bowl calibur one? I don't know about you but I am tired of bringing in second-tier QB in hopes that they can get the job done as well as a pro bowl calibur one can.
As it has been said, if Brees is healthy enough, he will be signed. If not, then he won't be and we will be stuck with a second-tier QB for another year.

It would probably mean that Gus returns. He might even start again. McCown and Ramsey are talented guys who you hope the light comes on for. The fact of the matter is that the light never comes on for a majority of the talented QBs. Personally, I'd root for either of those guys (I like both of them) but my level of optimism would be lower.

Fair, but I feel that yourself and alot of posters dont realize the calibre of player that Culpepper it. When healthy, easily in the top five

I disagree with you because Saban is always thinking long term. Even if he can't start right away when the season begins, he knows he has someone talented waiting in the wings. Even if that means he won't be 100% until the 2007 season, when the Dolphins will be real threats for the Super Bowl.

I agree even if we sign Culpepper I would still draft Jacobs in the second or third(If he is still there) for security and the future

I am saying that we don't know whether Brees or Culpepper will return to their former self. Settling is not what I am concerned about, I'm concerned about paying a mint for a guy that may or may not return to his former self. Culpepper stands a much better chance of full recovery, however, by the time he is completely healed, he'll be 30 years old (figuring the end of 2006 season as the time table). Do you want to wait for a 30 year old Culpepper to recover or hope that Brees shoulder injury allows him to come back to at least where he was before, which was considered weak-armed ?? Ramsey and McCown are second tier QBs, but we won't be where we need to be anyways this year with all the other holes we have to fill (CB, S x 2, LB depth, DT, OL x 2, etc)...another year to develop a rookie with a 2nd tier guy holding the reigns. I am certain that Gus isn't the short or long term answer...he proved that last year. It's choice that will be made shortly by Saban, I'm sure...It's just a guess either way we go...injury questions of Brees or Culpepper and reaching potential of Ramsey or McCown...
