what if we open the season with ronnie as our starter and he does decent but not great maybe average 60-70 yards a game and then in week 5 ricky comes back and for the rest of the year just simply outplays ronnie? and by the end of the season ricky is the starter. do we still trade ricky? i know this is unlikley but what if..

I say keep Ronnie, he would still be in a learning stage and Ricky has stated that he will only be playing for about 2 seasons.. so lets go with Ronnie and the long term deal

That could be the best and the worse thing to happen this year. I would be great because the value of Ricky would go up quite a bit, then again it would suck to trade Ricky and Ronnie not do so well. Ronnie has a lot of talent though so I am not too worried about it.

But look at this last year, you had guys like Shaun Alexander and Edge on the trading block and couldnt even get a 2nd round pick out of them. I'm not sure we would be able to get what Ricky is worth. That may have been because the draft was RB rich also. I just know it would be crazy to give up Ricky for the 3rd rounder if he looks anything like he did a couple years ago.

It doesnt help that theres many other free agent runningbacks next offseason when not even talking about edge and alexander

No matter what happens, Ronnie is gonna get a huge bonus so we cant trade him. We will be in the same situation that San Diego is in with their QBs

Ronnie is our future. Ricky isn't, regardless of how each one performs this season.

that'd be great for us. of course we still trade Ricky. he might be able to get us a first day pick if he does that well.

Beings that Ricky says he only wants to play 2 yrs. You probaly won't get a whole lot for him unless you find someone in a dire need of a running back for a year. In which if they get that desperate they might as well wait until the season ended and draft a running back instead of trading for a one year fix which might be costly.

So there ricky screwed us again by not being all that tradeable. Who can trust him?

I think the only reason Ricky is here is due to trade value.

That's a completely different story a year from now. Ronnie Brown is almost like the new face of the franchise. He was the second overall pick, more importantly, he's the first person Saban wanted in the 2005 draft.

I expect Brown to perform well, it's unlikely he'll be a bust. Saban knows his ability. I think Ricky's probably going to be gone next year.
