What is happening on June 1st

F

FLOUNDER

Somebody told me a while back something was going on june first, what was it?

and when will we know what Free Agents made the team?...

cut day for overpriced players. Hardly anyone with skill left gets cut these days because the teams are much better at managing the cap.

example from last year: eddie george

when you cut a player on or after june 1st the potential cap hit is split between this year and the next, so if we wanted to cut say Madison (this is all hypothetical just as an example) but couldn't afford the full 8 mil cap hit it would give us this year, we cut him june 1st and its 4 mil this year and 4 mil next year cap hit...

Most likely no one from the Dolphins since we're far enough under the cap that we don't have to worry about it.

The cap hit isnt split equally....unless there are only 2 years left on the players contract. If a player is cut after June 1, only the current years prorated portion of signing bonuses is counted against the current year's cap. The rest comes due the following season

For example....

You cut a player this June 2nd that is going into year 3 of a 6 year contract. When he signed, he got a 12million dollar signing bonus. Two years have already been charged, so there are 4 years, or 8 million dollars left to be charged against the cap. This year the player will count only 2 million against the team's cap, but next season 6 million will be charged.

June 1 is the deadline for Miami to sign all of their draft picks. If it's not done by then they go into the supplemental draft.

As far as the free agents who make the team that will be deteremined after the 5th preseason game.
