Lamar Miller is playing great. He is putting up nice numbers such as yards per carry; he is catching passes, scoring touchdowns, and being pretty damn productive. And his pass blocking seems ok as far as I can tell.

Yet a lot of dolphins fans, including myself, feel like he is somehow lacking. On paper, he looks great with his productive stats. But something is missing, and I can't put my finger on it. I am not criticizing Lamar Miller in any way. He has been good .... no, make that great. I'm just trying to figure out what it is that makes me and many other Phins fans feel the way we do. I cannot explain it. The only thing I can think of is that he goes down so easy sometimes. But regardless of that, he is having a great season.

Is it a "too good to be true" mentality?

Is it his poor performances in the past that leave some of us distrusting him?

Is it somehow related to Knowshon Moreno being "the man" before he was hurt and Lamar Miller being mistakenly viewed as backup material?

I don't know. Again, this is not a knock on Lamar Miller. It's more of an examination on why there is a "meh" feeling among some of us about Lamar Miller when he is playing so well.

I know its extreme, but I just had 1 look at Arian Foster last night, and I knew what LM lacks...to be able to break daylight in todays NFL, you not only need an extra gear, but the ability to physically shed tackles, and he doesn't have it. He might make 1 or 2 miss, but he will not shed tacklers. Daniel Thomas might, but he has no lateral movement and far from explosive burst, the kind that DMurray displays when he hits the hole. If we have access to that kind of talent in the 2015 draft, we should go for it, this offense would burst!! LMiller is more of a Play Action kind of RB, open field, not run through the middle. Those Bulldozer type of RBs find a way to plow tacklers, once a minimal hole opens!!

he runs directly at the safety once getting to the second level. I would love to see him run away from contact or juke the safety and break one

Not a 'workhorse' type. He's more finesse, and I'm not the biggest fan of those types .

No surprise there. So far this season you've been a fan of LB Jenkins and Matt Moore.

Anyways, Miller is averaging 4.8 yards a carry with 4 rushing TD's (consequently should have had another this past Sunday on the outside run that was called back thanks to CLay and Hartline) with another 17 catchess and a TD on the receiving end. All the while, apart of a rushing unit that is a 4th in the NFL. Pretty stout if you ask me. He has his weaknesses but he has picked up the slack with Moreno out and is carrying his share of the load very well.

The thing that drives me mad is that with his speed he'd be such an asset in the passing game but he's never been one. He is not good at catching the ball on the move. When we've thrown to him on the move he falls rather easily or he drops the ball more often than not.

He has never taken a big run to the House...Remember Reggie Bush, he did it regularly.

Miller 177 attempts last year, longest run was 49 yards, 80 plus attempts this year with a long of 28. He cannot bust the big one. That's what she said...
And our longest pass play of the year 6 games in is 35 yards. What the Flip Dude.

I think the long play concerns about our offense are a little over blown. We take advantage of defenses horizontally from sideline to sideline as opposed to narrowing the field between the numbers and trying to expose them vertically. No doubt we need to get there eventually, and I think we will, but we're averaging almost 25 points a game regardless for the time being.

What I see when he runs is absolutely zero wiggle. He's running hard and doing a good job. But the no wiggle to shake a guy or just a slight movement to run at a someone's shoulder after you've gotten them of balance instead of right at them.

I dunno. But from a personal pov, I've been really impressed, obviously this year's line and scheme is a lot better than last year as all our RBs have looked good, but Miller has really shone for me as perhaps the most improved player this year (outside of Jelani Jenkins, whose winning that race by a wide margin but that was because he was so awful the previous year). The fact that he can't be picked up on waiver wires for fantasy football teams shows how much of an impact he's making now.
