I know alot of people here were excited about Manny Wright at the end of last year but now it seems that he's not all everyone expected him to be. Last i herd he was out of shape again and Saban was not too happy about it. What's the lastest on Manny?

He's not in the shape they want him in. How big of a deal it is probably won't really be known until training camp opens.

Still time to get in shape for TC.

Not unusual for linemen to get a little heavy in the offseason.
I'm not saying it's not a concern, but don't make too much of it, yet.
He's young, and still maturing/learning how to be a pro. I think he'll be fine under Saban's guidance.

If he's not in shape now, he's still got 3 long / hard months of work ahead of him to get back in gear. I'm sure Saban / Capers will whip him into shape by the time the season gets underway....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I think that it's frustration. For all that this kid went through last year, and the promise he showed, his inability to maintain condition speaks volumes. Sure, he can rebound and get into shape, eventually, but it's still a huge step backwards. Doesn't sound like Vickerson's expected to make the splash that I thought that he would either. Too bad for both.

A very reassuring statement. I want to see this guy start blowing up the backfield like there's no tommmarow. Manny is a big boy, i hope he ends up playing the NT position this year. He's got the size being 6'6 329. I think he could be kind of what Wilfork is to the Pats.

Vickerson got hurt which set him back a while but isn't he supposed to be healthy by now. It's been like a year almost since he got hurt.

When he played last year, he looked good. So if he can look good when he is out of shape, imagine the potential the kid has.

Yes, Vickerson's healthy now.
When he got hurt in the preseason game, they thought he needed surgery, but then later determined that surgery was NOT needed (but he was already put on IR by then, so he was out for the year).

He will be a solid player for us I hope. I'm not expecting ProBowls or anything, but a solid, rotational guy.

He was hurt, and is healthy (how close to 100%, I don't know.) Alls I know is that neither Manny nor Vickerson could extract any positive comments from the coaching staff lately, thus we started shopping for another NT (Big Dadddy, among others.)

Damn, i thought we had some guys with some potential to crack the starting lineup this year. If we get Wilkinson i won't be mad but i really want to see some youth on the D-line. We have a good D-line and all but we gotta get some fresh blood on the defense.

I hope the kid has started training and training hard..... its a long season no matter how old you are. Better conditioning helps in keeping injuries away.... pulled hamstrings in camp etc.

What have you heard about Vickerson? I havent heard any negatives about the guy other than the stuff right after he was drafted. Past that, i havent heard anything and the fact that he is still here should dismiss the stuff that happened after the draft.

I had read somewhere recently that Manny Wright weighed over 350 pounds right now. It was reported that he was so out of shape he was the only lineman that could not complete the workout regime.
