What is the missing part of our pass defense?

we are weak at the safety positions. Reshad jones was horrible back there and yeremiah bell was a little better but also just as bad. Bell is gettin old and jones is just a big ?? right now. With that said though, we were alot better with chris clemons back there so when he comes back maybe that will help alot. Reshad jones just aint ready to start yet as much as i wanted him too.

as far as the rest of the defense though i think we are strong, davis and smith just keep gettin better and i see vontae being a pro bowler very soon now that he is finally maturing. Smith is improving and has shown he can also be a good cb, had a few picks this year. Linebackers are decent, misi, dansby(above average), wake,burnett. Pass rushers we seem to be the strongest at, randy starks is our best pass rusher and odrick is challenging him for that title. Odrick and starks is a great combo going into next year. We have the potential to be a great defense but we need help at that safety spot.

I say earl Thomas because that's who I wanted us to draft. Unfortunately, instead I heard that "the Miami dolphins just concluded a trade........"
 
A stud OLB who is feared by every offense we face, we dont have a guy that teams spend a lot of time game planning on.....if we had that guy then teams would have to use TE and backs to chip him, move the coverage to what side of the field he lines up on, change the protection at times to max protect.....this will keep our DB from having to cover for a long period of time and also allow them to jump routes because the QB trying to get rid of the ball quick....
 
If you have to ask this question then you obviously haven't been watching the games for a few years... In other words replace Sean Smith & Reshad Jones, a secondary pass rusher would take some double teams away from Wake.

Cam Wake says WTF?
 
I was thinking about this at the end of the season. I think free safety is up there with QB and RT as far as our team needs go. Also I like YB, but a SS who can cover wouldn't hurt either. I think the CB's are fine, we seem to get beat up in the middle.

OH and Will Allen was pretty decent in 2011 but I'm not warm and fuzzy on a 34 year old nickel corner.
 
1) Another pass-rushing OLB. MISI as a pass rusher is a bust. A 37 year old JT got 7 sacks, for God's sake. MISI's best was 4 1/2.

2) A new SS. BELL can't cover his a** anymore.

3) CLEMONS back at FS. While he isn't a great "ball hawk" yet, he's got speed to spare, and can cover a lot of ground. JONES was a borderline bust at the position last season. Besides, he was advertised as a big hitter, and was supposed to be a SS! So, how come he never really got a shot at the SS position? Let me repeat: BELL can't cover anyone anymore. He's finished. TOMMY BOY and THE TEs (sounds like a rock band) make BELL look silly on a consistent basis.
 
This is my plan to fix the defense:
  1. Sign Spags as defensive coordinator
  2. switch to the 4-3
  3. let Soliai, burnett and Langford go
  4. sign Mario Williams and Dashon Goldson
  5. draft a WOLB, SS and a passrusher
There you have it, my road map to the number one defense in the NFL.
 
Gotta get turnovers. This isn't just on Smith and Vontae. Team has issues at times finishing easy plays

I feel that our corners are serviceable. Bell is aging and he doesn't have much safety help. We need to improve our pass rush. You can have great corners, but they can't cover forever, you have to get pressure on the QB eventually.
