I am new here and come from the Gamefaqs NFL board (not sure if anyone is familiar if so you know me). I am a very vocal Miami voice and have been debating Samson Satele for a few days now. I was wondering what the view is here. I personally like him. He isnt the greatest C in the league but a servicable one. I hope Miami gives him the chance to redeem himself after a shotty sophomore (all be it injury hampered) campaign. I feel it would be nice to see him moved to G to take away that crap that was Justin Smiley. I think he is a good OL player and at guard could become a special one.

Thoughts?

Satele is listed as a 6'3" 300 lb. center who has a penchant for getting pushed around by bigger nose tackles. IMO, as well as many others, he'd be a better fit at as a backup guard.

I think people are underestimating the effect a torn labrum can have. He was basically playing with one arm. Combine this with revolving doors on either side at guard and a bad OL coach that most of the players said that they didn't progress with and I would say that he definitely deserves another chance.

I agree with you Valandui would like to see him stay at C but it looks like that is out of the question for Miami brass. I think the reason he has a "penchant for getting pushed around by bigger nose tackles" as stated by CalDolFAn was because of the torn shoulder.

I never saw him get "Pushed around" until his injury. Everyone on this MB was raving about this kid after his rookie season. Sataele will still be a very good player IMO, I hope he doesn't get shafted here in Miami then turns into a pro bowler somewhere else.

I think he is more than serviceable. May not be a probowl center, but better than Grove.

i think if his shoulder heals and he is able to participate in the offseason workout program, then he could still be our starting center. he played well when healthy. if he can add some strength this offseason and hold the point better then i think he is still our guy. still young and learning the position which the trifecta seem to support. improved guard play will also help him tremendously

I often wonder why nobody else sees that?

I agree. The job of a NT is to occupy multiple blockers. No center should ever be one on one with a 3-4 NT. He is supposed to have guard help. If you are playing with essentially one arm and no guard help of course you will be handled by the league's top NTs.

I played my entire senior football season 3 years ago with a torn labrum.. once they put that brace on, you do not even feel it unless your arm goes straight up above your head or twisted way back parallel to the floor.. it really should have no affect on a center...

but i will also say that i think satele is a great football player, he is just having trouble handling the NTs of the 3-4 defense.. a lot of centers around the league are struggling here, this is why more and more teams are switching to the 3-4 and C is becoming a more respected position..

I actually think satele can start or be a good backup for us at guard..

I alway though Sataele was kind of WEAK in a big way...
Ever in his Rookie year, the one we went 1-15

We all was looking for Bright spot for the future the season b4
Now new Coach,GM,and Parcell
MAY feel Sataele is not what they are looking for period

What is so hard to understand.....................

You're probably right. The thing about Satele is that he didn't know it until the season was over. If you know about it you can counter it. That is pretty impressive that you were able to do that, though.

i like him to but i dont think he is a good Center maybe if we moved him over the guard so he didnt have to go 1on1 with a NT

It really was not a big deal, it sucked, but ppl play with that all the time. Ive heard of pitchers playing with a torn labrum and that is insane because that is the direct motion needed for a labrum... i also had a friend at a rival school that played qb with one as well, but he had surgery and had metal plates and screws and bands all up in there helping him out.. but when it comes down to it, I dont wanna knock satele but i will not accept a torn labrum as an excuse when i know what its actually like..
