There were signs of this last season. I posted concern late last season and also in the offseason. Fields was getting away with floundering punts that dropped short but we allowed to scamper for an additional 15 to 25 yards. It was only a matter of time before he stopped being so lucky, and also that the opponents adjusted.

It's not every time but far more frequently than previously, and often at exactly the worst time. If we force them to start that possession from the 20 instead of the 40 the math changes considerably.

Key word being at the snap. He didn't notice the guy was alone until we'd been lined up for several seconds. If the personal protector had seen it quickly, and motioned for the snap, he could have tossed the ball out, and the gunner been gone long before the guy started moving that way.

No I called it how it is. He didn't punt bad our coverage a stunk all year like our qb.

He averaged over 40 yards today not all world, but not bad. Ed we have had coverage issues all year both covering punt and kick returns.

Pretty much the story of this team. One unit has to find some way to **** the bed at inopportune times.

I'm glad someone posted this. He has been less than adequate this season thus far. He used to boom punts and consistently put teams back on the wrong side of their own 10 yard line

And yeh that last punt was horrible. Worst case is he booms it and it ends up being a touchback. But to kick it that short didn't help matters. All the blaming going around and this guy deserves a good share of it as well.

Fields has been consistently good for many years. However, statistically his punting has declined this year and it's not obvious why. His poor final punt set up decent field position for the Packers. Maybe Dennis Hickey needs to start actively looking for his replacement.

His actual annual average salary is $3,325,029 and he is on contract to 2017.
