i keep seeing threads about how we should get rid of joey porter and i think that is stupid, and it's not because his 17.5 sacks or his resurgence this year, it's about his leadership role and his emotion on and off the field and especially in the lockeroom, he is chad pennington on the other side of the ball and are players and team feed off that, look at us in the locker room with the 1,2,3 lets ride!!! that's joey gettin the boys fired up, he brings emotion to this team wich is underrated in football, he defends his teammates and speaks his mind, that means more 2 me than his production, give him one more year with us then see what happens, we need a guy like joey porter on this team...

I'm amazd at the number of people who don't understand what playmakers do for teams. Some here want to keep Channing who does nothing special at all and some would consider trading Joey who on a team with few playmakers, just had a career season. It makes no sense. I don't expect Joey to do anything more than put pressure on the QB. I don't care if he's the best cover OLB in the game or the best run stuffing OLB in the game. I want him to get to the QB everything else, the tckls and defended passes are purely bonus stats IMO.

I know some here can't seem to grasp the concept, but Joey is what he is and he does what he does. We need more playmaker, not less. I love the fact that we added Wake to the other OLB position and he could eventually replace Joey, but the two of them rushing off the edge could creat some serious problems for teams we face. Also the reason our secondary played so much better this year was because of the pressure on the QB's. It creates more TO's and incomplete passes, stats that favor the secondary. Joey's importance to the success of the 08 Dolphins was immeasurable.

Getting rid of Porter would be a step in the wrong direction in my opinion. Even if he doesn't match his numbers from this year or not he is still one of the biggest motivaters on the team. His emotion is like that of Ray Lewis which is what keeps the D hungry all game long. It FIRES everyone up even on the offense. That has been the fins problem for years, no fire under their butts, no emotion, boring, lost that go get'em attitude. Now this team seems hungry and mad. If this is not enough I would atleast keep him around to mentor Wake for no other reason.

Thank You!!!!! No he does NOT do anything special at all....and it WILL NOT hurt my feelings at all if he leaves and goes somewhere else....

I've admittedly been one of those people saying we should trade him while we can, but this makes me realize how important he is. I've seen videos where the WHOLE team is surrounding him, waiting for him to start the pre-game roars or the post-game let's ride celebration .. even CP I believe looks up to him as a big brother. He brings heart and an extreme fire to this team, something I didn't see even when JT and Zach were here. I hope he retires a Dolphin.

I have no problem trading Porter as long as we get solid value. i have never bought his great leadership and I would rather get a longterm player for the dolphins instead of being saddled with his contract when he reverts to previous year form or worse. This was a career year rushing the passer for him. I personally dont see what kind of leadership is shown by defying your coach when he calls you off the field. Thats lack of leadership.

You make a great post like this, which further confuses me. You cant seem to grasp that John Beck is terrible.

Wow, you never bought into the leadership? The one thing that stands out more than anything else about fans that have never played the game of organized football in their lives is how they take for granted the importance of what Joey and other veteran players bring to winning games. I thought the whole reason these guy's played this game was to win, winning is a lot easier with winners than losers or guy's who are only in it for themselves.

Joey had 17.5 sacks this year, the best he's ever done even when on a Pittsburgh team that was top 5 and SB champs. Joey bought into what this coaching staff was selling and he led the way by example with the players on this team, that's the definition of leadership! You can't simply replace that with youth or DP's. Players either have it or they don't. Our Defense was fired up and ready to run through walls because Joey was leading the way.

Lol, I would hope he reverts back to the previous year's form, 17.5 sacks :woot:.

If you mean the 07 season, he wasn't being used correctly by a rookie head coach that bit off more than he could chew. He is a pass rushing specialist. He doesn't need to be out there running around the field tryin to break up passes. That's why he looked so bad in 07.

John Beck has played in 5 games with a 1-15 team missing players like Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Chris Chambers ect. and Cam Cameron as his HC. How on gods green earth can you conclude anything about any player based on that situation? Trent Green has proven 10 times more in this league than Beck and he couldn't win a game with Ronnie Brown, Chris Chambers and Cam Cameron as his HC, so how can you conclude Beck sucks with even less help....as a rookie nonetheless??

I guess that thing about fans does not apply to me because I played High School Football and basketball. College football and 8 man tackle league football in the army. i dont attribute our defense to Joey anymore than anybody else on this defense. Does Joey making a big play fire up the team of course but its the play that causes the leadership and not the carefully planned TV callouts that many people msiatke for leadership these days. On the field if you see another player work his azz off and make good plays it does inspire you but this same Porter was on our team last year. So did his leadership take a year off or something. Our defesne was fired up as a whole because many players were making plays except of course Channing crowder who never makes a play according to this board. Does Joey sometimes portray some good leadership of course but overall especially down the stretch he basically was all mouth and no true leadership. Loud mouth does not exactly equal leadership. Oh yea we were really inspired by Joey Porter taking his shirt off in the cold oh yea what a leader. I know we were all inspired by his refusal to come off of the field after purposely getting a second personal foul. If people want to rave about Porter fine , I will agree he is very good at getting to the qb, among the best. Is he a guy that some players on the defense look up to of course, just like Zach or Jason.

His defensive coordinator was far from a rookie, maybe Porter was misused because they thought he was better than he was but not because Don capers did not know any better. Linebackers do need to sometimes do other things besides rush the passer at times though. He was basicalyy the same in 06 so was Pittsburgh also stupid at using him.

I'm sorry, but how could you have played that much organized sports and not see the leadership that Porter brings to this team? Something doesn't add up. You can't sit there and tell me you did all that and in the next breath say Joey isn't a leader. The only conclusion could be either you're lying about the sports you played or you hate Joey enough to ignore the obvious facts right in front of you.

If you really did play those sports you couldn't very well sit there and tell everyone you don't see the leadership Joey brings to this team, it's either there or it isn't and we were very successful, the guy's in the lockeroom would gather in a group after the wins and Joey would lead them in their cheering, he played full speed, he would celebrate good plays even if he wasn't the guy who made the play. During Preseason he was jumping up and down on the sidelines chest bumping the young players coming off the field. Everything you want a leader to do.
