I remember some few years ago having Patrick Surtain, Sam Madison, Sammy Knight and Will Poole (in his rookie season) having everything under control, we were one of the best secondaries in the NFL if not the best, but we have been deteriorating our status and now, we lack of it, I think it is our weakest point right now and I think that Cameron should focus on improving it this offseason (by signing excellent veterans, who are not too old), then the next year, draft a lot of them...

My thoughts:

Position Needed Befor Draft:

1.-OL (LT) x 0 (C) x2 (Samson Satele, Drew Mormino)
2.-CB x 0
3.-S x 0
4.-WR x 1 (Tedd Ginn Jr)
5.-DE x 1 (Abraham Wright)
6.-QB x 1 (John Beck)
7.-DT x 1 (Paul Soliai)
8.-LB x 1 (Kelvin Smith)
9.-TE x 0
10.-K/P x 1 (Brandon Fields)
11.-RB x 2 (Lorenzo Booker, Reagan Mauia)

Position Needed After Draft:

1.-CB
2.-S
3.-OL
4.-TE
5.-LB
6.-DE
7.-QB
8.-DT
9.-K/P
10.-WR
11.-RB

I thought our o-line was our biggest need, and I think we did a great job of drafting/bringing in guys who should make our o-line much much better.

I think our secondary is now our biggest concern, but alot will depend on the progression of J. Allen. I was hoping we could draft a Cornerback....I thought John Wendling would have been a nice late round pick, but the Bills grabbed him. Maybe Cam will bring in some guys through FA, or hope to maybe pick up a veteran off the waiver wire following the future cut down dates???

I hope you're kidding about RB, WR, K/P, DT, QB, and CB. We have Brown and Booker and Mauia af FB. We have Ginn, Chambers, Booker, and Hagan at WR, and we got Feely before the draft and then Fields during the draft. Soliai, R. Wright, and Evans should be good enough for the future with Holliday and Traylor now. We have the right mix of QBs with Beck, Cpep, and Lemon. Jason Allen just moved to CB so he should be good with Daniels and W. Allen. I agree we could use another Safety even though both of our S are capable of starting.

I think he was ranking our needs in order, and not saying we needed a QB, WR, or an RB, compared to all the other needs we have.

I don't think we need either RB, WR, K/P, DT or QB, thats why those positions were at the bottom of the list...

Moreover, I think that any secondary needs a real playmaker (ala Ty Law, Assante Samuel, Champ Bailey, DeAngelo Hall, Roy Williams, Troy Polamalu etc...) to be a quality secondary.

Seeing Wendling go to Buffalo was a real kick in the gut. We just didn't have enough picks. In order to meet our needs we needed at least three more picks. Trading down and shopping Booker earlier in free agency might have got it done but it just didn't happen.

It would have been nice to have had another second to draft a CB and another fourth to get Wendling.

I think it's a good draft for us but I am very uncomfortable with the safety position. I love Bell but he has had injury problems and Hill is mediocre. I wanted to see Wendling and Craig Dahl in Dolphin camp but I guess we upgrade the secondary next year along with TE.

on D-fence the secondary is our weakest posion but our oline is the weakest out of the whole team

S, OT and TE are much bigger needs than CB. We're one of the deepest teams in the NFL at CB. With the depth we have at CB, why bother drafting a CB unless he is a potential shutdown CB like Darelle Revis? (Revis being the only potential shutdown CB in the '07 draft).

As a matter of fact Safety is a secondary position, as for OL we have been doing many FA acquisitions and been drafting also (we should keep considering it a weak position, but not as weak as before the draft), as for TE, its not such a BIG impact on the team, having 3 quality WR's and a good TE (David Martin), all that we need at TE is a SOLID receiver who doesn't drop the passes, besides we have in Training Camp a very fast and very tall WR named David Sutton, who apparently can make "unreal" plays and could be converted into a TE.

I don't agree, Leon Hall is also a potential shutdown CB as for Chris Houston and Aaron Ross

Man those were the good days for the defense. I talked with Howie Long once about it at his boys baseball game. He said that Sam & Pat were the best duo in the NFL. I had never had so much fun at a HS game...even when I played. I miss the days of having corners on both sides!!!!!!!!:fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire:

Lets just hope that next season the FO is very aggressive towards getting back playmakers at corner.

I'm aware that S is part of the secondary and that upgrading the secondary should be prioritized. I just feel S is a much bigger need, especially with Jason Allen moving back to his natural position.

I'll just agree to disagree....

The only other CB I wanted was McCauley in the 3rd. I don't see Hall/Houston/Ross being a significant upgrade over what we already have. McCauley has the potential to be a very good cover CB in addition to creating a ton of turnovers (10 inch hands).

Yeah, I've heard David Sutton has been impressing. Hopefully he can add 20+ pounds of muscle and still maintain very good speed.

I think your memory is a little foggy. I believe the best way to categorize Will Poole would be: "A never was."

Playing part-time in 15 games of one season does not a career make & I think the brief glimpses of greatness many Dol-fans remember have been over shadowed by his inability to remain on the football field. Infact, to mention him (& Knight , which is another arguemnet of its own) in the same breath Madison & Surtain is insulting to the careers of two of the gretest Corners to ever play with the Dolphins. Will Poole was only able to perform the way he did in those few games he played as a result of playing with those two.

Realistically, did anyone think rebuilding this team was going to be a one year deal. This team needs special care on both sides of the ball. However, the offense needed it more. I am so glad to see us get some players on the offensive side of the ball. I am sure Cam and Randy will address the secondary soon enough because we do need some youth on the defensive side of the ball.
