I just got my si issue today, and they had 354 nfl players take a poll on the best and worst coach's, heres how it looked.

Best coach.
Bill Belichick.....45%
Bill Parcells......9%
Tony Dungy.....8%
Dick Vermeil.....8%

Worst coach.
Tom Coughlin...29%
Marty Schottenheimer...14%
Butch Davis.....11%
Dave Wannstedt....11%

It doesn't surprise me that Coughlin is the most hated, he is the last coach I would want to play for. I don't think he is that bad, but he's ****ing crazy.

I really like Dick seems like a good guy and great coach! Wanny is right where he should be. At least as a coach.

I'd bet that most of them have never been on a Wannstedt coached team. Under that assumption, there opinion isn't much better (if any) than ours. Those 354 players need to have been coached by all these coaches in order for it to be a fair poll. No one can say who the best or worst coach is. Each coach has a different staff, and team. Different luck, different fans, etc......
There are too many intangibles to determine it. Same goes for players.

You've got to be crazy to draft the guy who knocked up your daughter.

Funny but there were some on this site that wanted T Coughlin to replace Wannstedt.. :shakeno:
I agree Ice, Coughlin has some mental issues as far as being a h-c but he would be a great assitant to a h-c ....
Coughlin wants to operate the team in a military fashion..
It didn't work in Jacksonville and it doesn't seem to be working in NY ....

The terms of the poll restricted thwe players from voting for their OWN coaches...:shakeno:

I reject the idea that this poll means nothing because most of the guys haven't played for more than a couple of the current coaches. Players get to know each other and talk just like people in any industry do. I have friends who work in banking in Charlotte, and I know that they're aware of the really good and really crappy managers in every department and in their competitors as well. These guys may not have played for the coaches themselves, but they have solid inside knowledge that the average fan and probably even the average reporter simply do not.

Players also watch ESPN and hear the constant negative press about Wanny & the Fins.

The players are also in the best possible position to know just how full of **** the press can be.

The problem with Coughlin is that he is so strict with his team that he is too strict. I get the impression that he is stricter than Parcells. Coughlin's problem is that his rules go to far and they are so bad that they cause his players to hate him. Parcells is strict, but at the same time is respected by his players. Some do end up hating him, but Coughlin seems to have a lot more players hating him. The fines he gave players for "not being early enough" just show how crazy the guy is. He has only coached the team for one game but has had numerous problems in terms of stupid fines and having his team practice too much. I don't think Coughlin will last in NY very long.
