What players do you think are just a definite NO WAY to draft for the Miami Dolphins and why?

I'll start with two:

WR- Ty Montgomery of Stanford: Though has a big frame, he has no route running ability, no fight for the ball, and he cannot separate well. I also dislike his hands, he struggles to catch the ball.

OT- TJ Clemmings of Pitt: yes we may not be looking at OT as much as the OG position, but stay away from this guy. His technique is awful and doesn't have too much experience in the position. He definitely wont be a LT, and though very well sized and athletic, he struggles moving to mirror in the pass blocking game.

ILB- Ramik Wilson of Georgia: We are trying to fix our issue with LBs that cant read, and get lost in the midst of blocks. SO OFTEN I see him getting lost in everything, not filling, and not able to get off blocks. Though fast and athletic, thats all he offers.

WR/TE Devin Funchess - Really don't get the hype. Someone posted his highlight film from Youtube. It was the first highlight film I've ever seen where 90% of the catches were routine catches...nothing spectacular...he also got tackled after every catch a la Brian Hartline. He shows no ability to separate, not a good route runner, no elusive in the open field, no 2nd gear, terrible hands. Only bonus he has is size.

OLB Shaq Thompson - I know I'm in the minority but I think this kid looks better as a running back than LB lol. Incredible athlete but I don't see the ability to read defenses, sometimes he's a step slow to react. Doesn't wrap up when he tackles which reminds me of Philip Wheeler a lot. I don't know how he would do in man coverage cause it looks like they had him play zone coverage a lot in Washington. Maybe all the hype comes from the athleticism which is off the charts but the football player...at least the linebacker part...I'm just not impressed with.

DT/NT Danny Shelton - Another shocker, I know lol. Hoops posted something a few days ago or a week ago that really made sense. Why would we get rid of Soliai and then draft this kid? I watched the senior bowl practices...early on he seemed unblockable then as the week wore on he started wearing down. Stamina was an issue, will weight be an issue in the future? He's a two down player at most...is that what we want with the 14th overall pick? Shouldn't we want more in return than two downs? If we draft this guy it would be a Mike Tannenbaum pick all the way...he's a 3-4 NT which is what Tannenbaum has been evaluating and drafted for years. To me Carl Davis makes more sense for our 4-3 front.

DGB, enough is enough with diva WRs, I don't give a crap how good they are. And I love his talent.

Good call. I'll add that he's extremely raw as a route runner and having played at Missouri for only two years he probably has no idea how to read defenses.

Agree that DGB is definitely not a good high pick for the character concerns alone. If he drops into the 3rd,mi might revisit the decision.

I like Carl Davis better than Shelton in general. I agree that he's not a top-15 guy. Is your list, though, just for #14? If so, I agree. If not, I think Shelton starts looking really nice in the 2nd - same with Funchess. Shaq just doesn't make enough plays, imo. He'll make the huge play, because he's an outstanding athlete, but more often than not, he's 10 yards away from the play. I liked Shaq early in the process, but the more I watch him, the more I'm iffy on him. Still, if he were there in the 2nd, the athlete is hard to pass up (depending on the other players available).

Might not even know how to read an offensive playbook either, Missouri has typically always run pretty basic offenses. Why ya think Egnew was so damn lost in the NFL.

Totally agree on Funchness on everything you said... i think i spoke on him in another thread too.

Totally agree with you on Shaq as well... great athlete, but just not a solid solid player at OLB. I have too many question marks with him and those athletic but raw type of LBs tend to always disappear in the NFL.

Shelton i disagree though... I love what he brings and he has a motor, he is always playing hard and i think he was an every down DT as well in Washington... he is definitely a guy I would love to draft. #14 may be to high though... and yes, I like Carl Davis as well

YUP... I dont want him either... dont want to pray that a high draft pick diva works out for us, with issues, baggage, attitude, anything.

Notta big fan of shaq thompson so far. A stud running back that plays linebacker going so high? I don't really like it.

Whats wrong with him losing a few pounds and being a 4-3 guy? Also why wouldn't we want to let a 30 year old DT walk when he wants big $ and draft a 21 year old for much less? If they get Shelton I'll be excited, mainly because I think Hickey is good at drafting DT's and if he likes him enough to use a 1st he must be pretty damn good. Like McCoy good. At this point I have no clue who we are going to take in the 1st lol.

i think carl davis given that size is gonna get hard looks from 34 teams in the 20's...the playoff contender ones...indy baltimore pittsburgh...seems to be a guy that for their systems they would covet...as a 5 tech like a corey redding type or the jones guy formerly of baltimore now in indy

He'd make a lot of sense for both those teams. Baltimore always has at least a good run D, and they don't mind drafting talent even if they have a starter at the position - see Jernigan (2nd best DT of his class) last season, and the Colts need help against the run and with getting push on the QB. This group of DT's is much better than the 2014 group, don't you think?

I think there's a pretty straight forward answer to the Soliai question. We actually made a very un-Dolphins move letting him go right as he was about to decline. It has nothing to do with the role it plays, it had to do with value and I thought they were right on. What I didn't consider, which they didn't seem to consider either, was the value of a space eating NT even in a 3-4. You saw the steep dropoff that Starks had and our run defense, and I think it can be clearly attributed to not having a true 1 technique on the roster. If we get a NT I really think it helps Starks, Mitchell and our linebackers make plays, and it's become a huge need to me. Personally I'm solving it in FA, not to say I wouldn't consider Shelton in the draft, but I'd rather not especially since from what I've watched he's more of a 2-down player.

Shelton is a three down player that pushes the pocket. During the Senior Bowl practices & the game he was praised for being a unique three down player for a man his size. He finished second on the Huskies with 93 tackles. That's unheard of for an interior lineman. We won't have to worry about Shelton though because he won't be on the board when we pick.

RBs - Ameer Abdullah & Jay Ajayi - both have serious ball security issues.

WRs - Sammie Coates, Tyler Lockett, & Ty Montgomery - not a fan of receivers with questionable hands.

WR - Jamison Crowder - strictly a slot receiver that we don't have room for.

DE - Frank Clark - domestic violence charge

OLB - Shaq Thompson, Washington - at least not in the first round. His size & experience are lacking. He shouldn't have added the weight & stuck to playing safety.

CB - Marcus Peters - character issues
