What players will be cut before training camp? Well, if new free agents are signed my understanding is that the roster would have to be tweaked. Can anyone identify players who will not even make it to training camp?

I dont know who would be cut before training camp, but these would be players I would have question marks on:

David Bowens would be a salary cap cut IMO. He was offered to take a paycut and declined.

Jeff Zgonina is VERY undersized as a DT and is aging. We signed a few new Dlineman so I would expect him to be shown the door.

I dont see them having a future here......

If reports are true about Howard and his paycut(or lack there of) with the drafting of Daniels he may be moved.

With our lack of quality CB's on the roster I believe he sticks around this year because of the cap room we gained recently by moving Surtain. Next year I can see Saban bringing in more guys he likes in his system..

Have to wonder if Brock Berlin would be any good in the AFL or CFL? I don't see him being a 3rd stringer on most NFL teams

We would still have Madison, Poole, Daniels, and Edwards. If we can get a FS so that one of these guys doesnt have to transition we may very well see him gone!

On the Dline, perhaps D. Bowens unless he can also play stand up LB. In that case perhaps one of the reserve LB's such as Jenkins, Ayenbedejo, Pope, and/or Moore. There would have to be both a cap benefit and a player they wanted to fill the slot for it to happen however. I don't think we have enough depth in the defensive backfuield as it is so I doubt we will see any pre-emptive cuts there.

On offense, imo, no way Berlin gets cut before camp. Teams carry four QB's into camp just for the work load. Berlin will get the scout team, maybe the season practice squad, and if so a shot at NFLE next year!

Maybe the best chance for someone leaving before camp is at RB. We have Ronnie Brown to start but then we have Lamar Gordon, Travis Minor, Sammy Morris, and Kay-Jay Harris who all should get a legimate shot to be the back-up. I don't see us carrying five RB's nor do we need that many even in camp. If one of them gets a look by another team and Nick can turn one into a draft pick I think he pulls the trigger. My guess??? Travis Minor. Why? He is the only "light" back. The others are all guys who could play out of the one back set Linehan seems to prefer.

We have insufficent depth at WR or TE to expect cuts there and on the Oline, Houck/Davis seem to be intent on collecting enoguh bodies to find five who they can build into one line. I think they ought to concentrate on finding a loophole that allows us to play seven offensive linemen at once but that's a topic for a differant thread.

Good points...let me add that Bowens did play OLB in college, but I wouldn't be surprised that if he gets cut or shown the door...I can't really remember if he restructured...I don't think he did, but either way, if Roth shows promise, Bowens could be either a June 1 cut or a camp casualty. I would be less surprised if Jenkins, Abendeyo, Pope or Moore are not cut...I just don't see Moore having much influence in Saban's D.

On offense, your're right...Berlin will be here at least thru SC...With the RBs..I agree with you too....My money is on Minor to get cut. Morris can be a backup RB or FB and could get a roster spot based on that, as the third RB and B/U FB. Also, could be real interesting if Carey and McDougle show well in camp...will they keep Big Mac ?? He has the higher hit on the cap and if our LT situation is resolved, he could be shown the door, but I wouldn't see that happening until near the end of SC....

Great points, I agree.

I don't know why anyone would be cut before training camp. Why would Saban limit the possibilities before he sees them in game action. Also ditto on injuries.

During cut down, I wouldn't be suprised if Damion McIntosh was cut, Houck has shown him the door before. Matt Turk could be a cut depending on the competition, his leg ain't what it used to be.

who dod we have besides turk? I say we get rid of all the kickers and just use Welker :D :D

MacIntosh is a pretty good player when he is healthy..... He probably should have sat out last year and came in 100%, but competition got the best of him. When he played under Houck he was good, and I see no reason he wont return to that form. He also took a pay cut, which has to win him some brownie points with the coach. I just dont have faith that Carey will beat him out for LT, I think Carey will be a MONSTER beside McDougal on the right side. Those two would give us almost a 700 lb right side!
