Saying we draft Chris Long what position in the 3-4 defense will he play?
I heard someone say he is to small to play DE, so that makes him an OLB right?
Surely the 1st pick is way tooo high for a OLB. And we have Taylor and Porter to play there.
So what position would he play? and do you think he is the correct pick?

JT plays both OLB and DE in the 3-4. When we played the 4-3 JT was a full time DE. C. Long is bigger than JT so I don't know where this stuff comes from that he is to small to play DE. I still think it's a real possibility that if Miami drafts C. Long they might trade JT. Even if they don't there are many different ways to use these guys. There is enough room for them both on the team.

The reason why some people say he's too small to play the DE in the 3-4 defense is because the DE should be around 290lbs. The job of the DE in the 3-4 defense (at least to my understanding, so correct me if I'm wrong) is to work with the NT to contain the 5 offensive linemen freeing up space for the more athletic linebackers to make the play. Chris long is listed at 6'3" 272lbs (at ESPN.com) which is probably too small to play DE, if we stick with the 3-4. Now I don't know if he has the body type to add around 15lbs to that in order to play DE in the 3-4, but I really don't see him playing DE. I say this because if we draft him #1 overall, we will be paying him $30 million guaranteed with around $65 million total (Russel was $62 million, $29 million guaranteed right?) to play a position where all he does (according to my understanding) is to engage the offensive line and allow others to make the play. Sorry, based on money he better be an OLB in our system if we draft him #1 overall.

C. Long will play OLB....

....for the Rams.
