What ruined henne

:bobdole:

Are other teams so precious with their QB's???? Sorry but even the title... 'What ruined Henne'... suggests that it has little to do with the man himself. In what world can poor performance be solely the result of 'someone/something' else??? Those are called excuses. Henne HAS to man up and take responsibility... Until then he won't even 'lead' a horse to water.

What ruined Henne was the expectation that this team was a superbowl contender and the typical 3 year window a coach and qb has. It wasn't this way in the 80's when qb's flourished and even into the mid 90's. This win now mantra is a relatively new ideology that has been forced down teams throats from fans/ownership in the past decade. It used to be a 5 year window and now that has been shrinking. Basically if you draft a guy, especially in the first 5 and he is a qb, he damn well better be prepared to play and at a high level. That just isn't realistic for 90% of the qb's drafted. It isn't their fault and to think Henne was a 2nd round pick with top 5 pressure and handicapping by a coaching staff that told him he must win but NOT to mess things up, the end result of the coaching ideologies would have ended in failure for most qb's thrust into that position.

Henne was ruined or close to being ruined by the coaching staff, NOT singularly by his own abilities or lack their of.

Qbs have to have confidence to succeed. I think that Henne lost confidence in the second part of last season for a few reasons: (a) Henning's conservative play calling, he was just being asked not to lose games, not given many chances to go out and win them. (b) Marshall is immensely talented but when things don't go well he becomes emotional. The chemistry wasn't working, but it's correctable. (c) The Fans. Chad has a higher passing percentage than Sanchez but has garnered little respect because of losing some close games.

He's not ruined.... but a poor job by the coaching staff, bad playcalling, outdated philosophy, and the Wildcat almost ruined him. In other words, they came damn close.

But the bottom line is that regardless of all that, Henne would still tell you that he just flat out didn't play well enough... take away all the excuses, and he still just didn't perform.

Your quarterback HAS to be the leader, and it's awful damn hard to lead when you're not playing well. A proven player can still lead when he's not playing well, he knows he'll snap out of that slump eventually... more importantly, his teammates know he will.

However, that's not the case when you're trying to establish yourself in this league.

What he needs is a fresh start, in a system that gives him an equal opportunity to experience a little success as the rest of the quarterbacks in this league... even if it's only in practice. Once he starts practicing well, he'll gain some confidence. That confidence will help a player play well in games. Playing well in games will allow him to lead.... which is the quarterback's job.

Beware of your thoughts; they become words.
Beware of your words; they become actions.
Beware of your actions; they become habits.
Beware of your habits; they become character.
Beware of character; it becomes your destiny.

Bottom line is he has one more chance to get it right, but he needs a little help along the way. The coaching staff has one more chance to get that right...

Finally after all these month, your seeing the light.....good to see.

I find it funny that people make the Henning excuse for Henne, yet QB's like Pennington and Delhomme (who were far from elite QB's) had good success in his offense, yet its Hennings fault that Henne didn't succeed?

Dont get me wrong, I wasn't a fan of Henning's offense/play calling and I honestly do hope for the sake of the Dolphins that Henne adapts better to Daboll's offense, but you simply cannot blame Henning for Chad Henne's poor displays.

Excuse me, but if you watched the Dolphins last season, you would have noticed, the plays that were called from 2009 to 2010 were night and day. The fact that almost every passing offensive play was a 5 step drop should tell everyone what Henning was up to. If you want to ignore the possibility that Henning tanked it because his long time friend the Tuna was pushed out, that’s your choice.

Exactly, this is dead on

make a list

maybe he will never fulfill his potential abd needs to work harder or maybe isnt that good

He has a poor head coach that tinkered too much along with a poor qb coach that couldnt make him better and an OC that did not work into his talents and was fascintaed by the stupid azz wildcat

His offense was based on quick short accurate tight window throws with nothing down field.

Henne has a different strength than those other two qb's. Henning was good at those typoes of offenses but didn't change when he had a QB with a different skill set. That's why they were able to do well and Henne will not. It's the coaches job to not be stubborn and cater to the offense to his weapons. Henning failed at that.

That's not an excuse for Henne, just answering the posters question on why Henning gets a pass for the other QB's

People will point fingers in any direction but Chad's in an effort to defend him. No one wants to admit that we've whiffed on yet another QB and wasted several years. It's best to have 7 win seasons for three and four years as opposed to ONE 1 - 15 season or whatever it takes to land a franchise QB that turns this thing around for many many years.

Don't understand that logic.[/QUOTE]

You're not the head coach trying to keep this paycheck. It's easier to stay around and say "we're on the cusp of something here" then to totally blow and say "Well we can only get better" and still have a job.

3 pages and not one mention of that stupid wildcat. that would screw any QB up.

If he had all the tools...Then he would have been drafted earlier. If you look at a guy like flacco. The guy is 6'6 and can scramble with the best. And I hate the ravens. But I was watching some mason highlights and the guy know's how to release the ball and sidestep the pass rush really well. That was a big issue with henne and also with kellen..Thats why they were second rounders in a qb weak draft.

Very true. Any time Henne/offense got into a rhythm it always seemed like they would take him out for a wildcat play.

And to go to say anything about pennington. The guy had the weakest arm ever,And still was so smart to know what the defense was up to all the time and used his poor arm strength to get the job done. You cannot compare the two at all..

The coaches, the system, the O.C., the Wildcat... and on it goes. EXCUSES. Did EVERYONE believe the guy was a world beater outta Michigan??? Most in here are talking like he was a first overall and has experienced a meteoric tumble from grace. You are victims of your own expectations.
