With all the talk about glaring needs at qb, o-line, linebacker, defensive line, cornerback, and safety I figured I would take a moment to think through another position that's in need of an upgrade but doesn't get as much attention:

What do you all think the Dolphins should do at the TE position?

I am all for drafting some potential at TE, maybe a guy like Cottam.
But I wouldn't cut Martin just yet. See what his camp looks like at least. I certainly thought he was gonna do better than he did last year. Bummer.

I think they should have gotten Bubba Franks, he's a very good TE thats cheap at the moment. Instead the jets got him so now we get to see him catch TD's on us twice a year.

TE is a need, but not glaring. Justin Peele and possibly Martin will do fine while we develop a TE from the draft.

I agree that the TE position needs an upgrade. Unfortunately, I don't think it will be addressed this year. We'll have to wait until the 2009 draft for an upgrade.

At this point, we should definitely be looking at the draft for all of our personnel needs. Even undrafted free agents would be an upgrade at this point, because we saw just how great Martin was last year in missing blocks completely and failing to impact the passing game at all.

My guess is the don't draft a TE until late on the second day....they already have enough on the roster.

draft one late and pick up a FA and have them fight it out. i like peele as a back up.

Keep Peele for obvious blocking/running plays. Go crazy with the RB packages (look at the talent there). Ricky, Ronnie, Lorenzo in on the same play? Boomer Grigsby looked to have pretty good hands. Line him up. Unless there is good value 5th or lower with a quality player. I don't see picking a TE in the draft this year. Martin could come back around with Sparano and the boys kicking him in the a$$. Lots of gaping holes to fill that are way more important right now.

I say if Keller or Davis drops to #57, we get one of those two... I believe both of those guys can be a poor man's Todd Heap... I don't want the Phins touching John Carlson, but I think Dustin Keller is a weapon this Miami offense desperately needs... He just needs to add a bit of bulk in my opinion...

I think they draft one this year and probably pretty high if the right guy is there. BP utilizes the TE alot. IMO Peele was terrible - he missed alot of blocks! I didn't expect him to be a pass catching threat but I expected him to be a solid blocker and I saw him blow a few blocks. No way can you have a TE do that. I wouldn't be shocked if he gets cut by end of camp. I hope they draft someone mid rds to groom. Martin needs to be pushed and I think Cam was the wrong coach for him - too laid back. This coaching staff will be the opposite and I think he has talent if he gets in shape. I think he will do okay but they certainly need to draft their future TE.

Keep Peele as the H-Back, cut David Martin, his blocking, or lack thereof, pretty much got our Qb's killed last year, and his receiving does not make up for his poor blocking.

S. Young from the Jets should get a look as our blocking Te, so will we need a Te who can stretch the field, and the only way we can find someone to do that is via the Draft or a UDFA.

Why not Carlson? He's a good tight end that had a bad year because of the situation he was in. The whole ND squad as a whole sucked which included his production so why rule him out?
