What the heck is with the national media?? THey hate us?

I have seen this most my life. In the 80s, the Dolphins were one of the elite teams, yet more times then not, sports publictions continued to have the Jets ahead of the Dolphins in their predictions, the Dolphins would finish ahead of them, and then the following year, they would predict the Jets again as the winner of the east.....All because the had the overrated D-line known as the SACK EXCHANGE, It used to drive me crazy how little respect they gave the Dolphins with no clear reason why.

I remember back in the early 2000s when the Phins were usually 10-6 or 11-5, the media was much more kind. I even recall Surtain and Madison being guests on Jim Rome's radio show back then (think the Phins were 7-1 at that point). Winning most definitely gets you respect.

Fair enough. I was only 10 back then, its kinda hard to follow football like I do now, with nap time and coloring and such. You know, typical stuff.

But since I've been a concious fan, I have seen little to no respect for the Fins. I've just grown accustomed to it, you know?

I also predict us to be in the 5-11 or 6-10 range.

can you please explain where we have gotten worse?? considering we were a MISSED call away from being 8-8 last year with wins against both the superbowl contenders, how the heck do you see us getting worse?!?!?

Have you not seen how different henne looks ????

Times are much different now compared to then too b/c of the internet boom we're all seeing. Considering there are at least 10 web sites that devote their time to sports (along with predictions), there's also Twitter, and FB, and podcasts, etc. that go along with TV and radio. It gives more random people a voice to be heard. You don't even have to go to college anymore, all you have to do is a sing a retarded song on YouTube and you're an instant celebrity.

Times have most definitely changed. It would be nice to have a consistent good team though b/c with all of the media coverage I just mentioned, at least the Dolphins would get positive recognition from the various media outlets.

Definitely true also, but just because theres more coverage doesnt mean it has to be negative. And most certainly once we become winners year in and year out we will get recognition. But we've been 7-9 two straight years, fair to say thats middles of the pack, yet perennial bottom dwellers of the league either do not get mentioned or get so positively, in a "headed in the right direction" piece. Yet the Fins are doomed to being horrible for the rest of their existence? It's biased to say the least.

All I'm saying is there are FAR worse teams than us, yet they dont get publicly criticized from top to bottom like we do. Though fair play has never been the media's strong suit.

I just don't see how anyone can say we are gonna be worse than last year...

we have an easier schedule......

We upgraded all over the board... the only POSSIBLE downgrade you could say is running back, and thats arguable (our new RB group has much more potential and is much younger)

We also had our 1'st round pick hurt all last year, he is now returning and has been playing very well.. we effectively added 2 first round picks.

We greatly upgraded the middle linebacker position on a defense that was dominant last year. Chad henne looks like a completely different QB.....And yet we're gonna be worse? yah ok.

I've seen so many "experts" predicting us to be WORSE than last year or barely finish with 6-7 wins.... my question is how the hell do they think we've gotten worse?? There are some NFL teams who lost more than they gained this year but miami is NOT one of them...

We effectively have 2 first rounders joining the team this year, since odrick missed all of last year, new 1'st round lineman on each side of the ball...

I can see how our running game might be downgraded a tiny bit but honestly if D.thomas and l.johnson step up it should be about the same with potential to be better. And we WILL have a better line once jake long returns.

Henne has shown improvement, nobody can deny that, we also added a speedy receiver to help stretch the field... can anyone please explain to me how people are predicting us to be worse than last year??? if anything we might be one of the most improved teams in the league if henne continues to play well..
Seriously, why do you care what other people think??? How does that effect reality??? Isnt it better they think less of us and we get to show that they are wrong???

I think its great. I think it feeds right into what sparano said. And they ignore that too. They laugh at vontae davis for saying best tandem.

Its really about the market. There is no market in miami to concern themselves with. The big apple. Boston. Philly. and north coast. There is nothing to be gained by talking good about miami.

But like i said, the storyline will be much better this way. Even when sparano tells them its a mistake to forget about them....whatver. WE ARE PLAYING WITH A FULL DECK. That is why sparano said the word "dynasty". The tide will turn.

Just look at New England, i mean really, still going after guys in FA when they have all those draft picks year after year? I mean u really think haynesworth and ochostinko will be there next year after they witness us with 5 WR's showing them up? and they will show them up. trust me. they have plans for gates, clay, bush, and entire O. right out from the gate. no pun intended.

Ok I really struggle with the concept of a rookie coming back from a season ending injury and multiple surgeries gives us a advantage! No it doesn't give us 2 first round picks this year it gives us a young player recovering from major surgery and yes when your plates and screws put in you to fix a fracture fail and require surgery to fix it is major and a high impact surgery. Anyway a young player who missed his first year it isn't a advantage, and since we are on that note either is Edds. They have potential, but they are not a advantage, they are unproven to this point and can't be counted on.

Four things:

1. The media remembers the Dolphins courting Harbaugh only to stay with Sparano. They assume it is a bad situation, but ignore that the players and coaching staff fully suport Sparano. Or that Sparano is completely changing the offensive scheme to adapt to the ever evolving league. All they see is what happened in January and ignore everything in between.

2. They believe that Henne is not good and not a leader. They ignore that he has been a completely different QB in camp and preseason than last year and has become a leader. They ignore that he organized practices during the lockout and that players that didn't believe in him last season, like Marshall, do believe in him this year.

3. They see a 1-7 home record, but ignore that the Dolphins were 6-2 on the road and included a win against the eventual Super Bowl Champion Packers. Or that they would have beaten the Steelers if it were not for a blown call by the refs.

4. They point to that Miami can't compete in a division with the Patriots and Jets. Yet fail to acknowledge that the Dolphins have the most wins(among the other three East teams) against the Patriots since 2000 and have won 4 of the past 5 against the Jets.

The Dolphins on paper are Sparano's most talented team. To think they are a 3-4 win team is ridiculous. This team will be in the playoff hunt.

Agree 100%
