OK, first let me start by saying I couldn't be happier that the Texans did this deal, because it puts us that much closer to Brady Quinn. HOWEVER, I just can't frigin understand what the hell the Texans brass is thinking

So they pass on Reggie Bush, who I personally think fits much better in a system where he is used like he was at USC (as is the case now with NO) but would have given the Texans the needed boost in moral and fanfare they desperately need. Then they pass on Vince Young, who would have been even more popular than Bush being that he is from Houston, not to mention he had a pretty damn good year given what he was projected as doing. Plus, he could have better managed the shoddy o-line given the fact that he can create plays with his feet even when it seems there is nothing to create.

They also pass on Matt Leinert and Jay Cutler, along with passing on the potential opportunity to take Brady Quinn or even Jamarcus Russell, all to trade way too much for Matt Schaub.

Now I have no problem with Matt Schaub, we haven't seen enough of him as a starter to judge one way or another, but c'mon. They could have had any one of the aforementioned players for one solitary pick and yet they trade said pick, plus two 2nd rounders, for an unproven backup who is basically just as green as all of the other players from Bush to Quinn.

OK, so he looked good in those TWO career starts (both losses mind you) or in preseason (PRE-season mind you), but how much was his actual talent and how much was the opposing defense being prepared for Vick's game (ie; run containment) and just being caught off guard?

If I were a Texans fan I'd be PISSED right now since we passed on ALL of those QBs (and Bush) and then traded all this away for Schaub. The arguement could be made that they didn't know if Quinn would fall, but why not wait and see, and if he wasn't there at 8 they could then go through with the Schaub trade. I just find it dumfounding that they pass up all those great QB choices that could have been taken with one pick and then give away 3 big pick (well, 2 since the 1sts were swapped) for a guy who is 0-2 as a starter and has never had significant regular seaon playing time to judge him either way

Again, I'm LOVING their horrible decisions because it increases the odds of us getting Quinn, but still, I just don't get it and I can't even imagine how pissed Texans fans are, especially because MOST of Carr's problems stemmed from the o-line, not his actual play, so Schaub will just have the same problems.

they have done some stupid things but i am for it if it helps miami and it is looking like we are getting a QB in the first.

Whatever helps Miami inch closer to a Brady Quinn is all good for me.

You do know that Vince Young was the worst rated QB in the league last year right? Even worse than our boy Harrington..

Vince Young will show some flash and win some games, but they are an 8-8 or 9-7 team.. He is like a lesser version of Mike Vick

They traded for the hottest young QB in the league, matt schaub, and gave up less than a first round pick in points value. If they swapped first rounders and just gave em the second, thatd be well worth it... easily.

Id be more mad at a certain organization for trading a 2nd rounder for a quarterback that could very well be cut this year :rolleyes2

You do realize it was Charlie Casserly making all those decisions prior to this year, and he quit the day after the draft? Yeah the owners and coach had some input but Rick Smith is now playing Randy Mueller/Cam to their team, cleaning up a prior person's mess.

Actually Casserly wasnt the one who took Williams over Bush/Young. He was all but fired before that, but he was kept around as a fall guy, as the Texans brass knew it was gonna be very unpopular. To be honest, Williams has a good chance of having the best career of the three, but he wasnt gonna provide that instant boost bush/young would have.

As for the Schaub thing, this shocked me, and Im usually ontop of texans stuff (as I live here and because they were important as to how our draft would go). Not a bad move on the whole, but it seems alot to give up for a guy. They must really have thought they werent gonna get Quinn or Russell. Once they lost out on the others (especially Plummer) I thought Quinn to Houston was a done deal. Oh well, now its more likely that Quinn to Miami is the deal instead, w00t!!

I wouldn't call Matt Schaub the hottest young QB in the NFL, unless you mean most talked about. As far as performance he is 0-2 with 6 INTs and 6 TDs. I've said it before, it's WAY to early to judge the guy. My personal opinion is that he had his "success" in Vick's place because teams were prepared for Vick, whih is a completely different gameplan than an ACTUAL QB. See what happens when a team has a seasons worth of gametape on him and can design schemes to exploit his weaknesses. If he still shines (even though he never really "shined" in his other 2 starts) then yes, I will call him the hottest young QB in the NFL.

And don't worry, I'm PLENTY pissed about the Culpepper trade, but I've already done an entire years worth of posting on that (I opposed him coming here the second the RUMORS that we might be interested in him even started), and all I'd really be able to say is "I told you so" anyway to all the people who thought it was a good idea.

I totally agree.....let him earn it the old fashion way....on the field.

Wasn't Vince like 9-4 as a starter. Worse than Harrington? He pretty much had a young no name offense and was in his first season with a team that was expected to be in the running for a top 5 pick again. He is a winner, and that is the most important element in his game and alot of times, that is the best element u can have in your game. I think Vince is a bit more talented than Vick at QB, not more athletic. I can see Vince in a Super Bowl before Mike Vick also.

Agreed. Vince had the lowest passer rating or comlpetion percentage, but he got his team 8 wins, and I will take a rookie QB being able to get us 8 wins over him leading the league in passer ratings any day. Wins and losses are the only stats that matter when going for a playoff bearth/Super Bowl win, and Vince's numbers thre were impressive.

I also think he's much better than Vick. He may not be as fast or athletic, but Vince Young did as a rookie what Vick has been TRYING to do since entering the league, and that is get his team wins no matter how he has to do it. The difference is, Vince KNOWS when to throw it and when to pull it down and run, Vick just automatically thinks run first one every play, no matter what, because he is a selfish ball hog.

Besides, a rookie QB thrust into a starting role in his first year with no "go-to guy", or big name offensive players to take some pressure off him, being at the bottom of the league in rating/completion percentage isn't that shocking, all of that can be improved with time and teaching (hence QBs in IDEAL situations sitting for a year or two before taking over), but the 8 wins and near playoff miss IS shocking, especially when everyone called him overrated and thought he'd be a bust and wouldn't be able to do the things he did in college in the NFL.

The Texans would have been a LOT better off with him than Mario Williams. Vince being mobile would have helped even more given their shoddy "o-line", his feet could have gotten them out of a lot of the trouble Carr found himself in.

The last good decision Houston made was drafting Dunta Robinson, they've had a string of bad moves

1.Forfeiting a 2nd round pick to get Tony Hollings in the supplementary draft (out of the league now).

2.Trading up in the 2nd to draft Bennie Joppru (3rd string TE in Seattle)

3.Giving our boy Todd Wade a rediculously large 7 year contract. (They cut him 2 years later and Wade was out of the league until injuries killed Washington's line).

4.Giving our other boy Morlon Greenwood a huge contract and cutting Jaimie Sharper; Greenwood is still not a playmaker.

5.Cutting Aaron Glenn.

6.Trading a 2nd round pick for Phillip Buchanon (benched 3 games into his first season with the Texans, cut one year later)

7.Trading up into the first to draft Jason Babin (in danger of getting cut)

8.Drafting Travis Johnson (was almost cut last season, is still in danger).

The decision to draft Williams was ok in theory because they had Davis, but during Spring OTA's it became evident he wouldn't be ready for the season.
