OK, first let me start by saying I couldn't be happier that the Texans did this deal, because it puts us that much closer to Brady Quinn. HOWEVER, I just can't frigin understand what the hell the Texans brass is thinking
So they pass on Reggie Bush, who I personally think fits much better in a system where he is used like he was at USC (as is the case now with NO) but would have given the Texans the needed boost in moral and fanfare they desperately need. Then they pass on Vince Young, who would have been even more popular than Bush being that he is from Houston, not to mention he had a pretty damn good year given what he was projected as doing. Plus, he could have better managed the shoddy o-line given the fact that he can create plays with his feet even when it seems there is nothing to create.
They also pass on Matt Leinert and Jay Cutler, along with passing on the potential opportunity to take Brady Quinn or even Jamarcus Russell, all to trade way too much for Matt Schaub.
Now I have no problem with Matt Schaub, we haven't seen enough of him as a starter to judge one way or another, but c'mon. They could have had any one of the aforementioned players for one solitary pick and yet they trade said pick, plus two 2nd rounders, for an unproven backup who is basically just as green as all of the other players from Bush to Quinn.
OK, so he looked good in those TWO career starts (both losses mind you) or in preseason (PRE-season mind you), but how much was his actual talent and how much was the opposing defense being prepared for Vick's game (ie; run containment) and just being caught off guard?
If I were a Texans fan I'd be PISSED right now since we passed on ALL of those QBs (and Bush) and then traded all this away for Schaub. The arguement could be made that they didn't know if Quinn would fall, but why not wait and see, and if he wasn't there at 8 they could then go through with the Schaub trade. I just find it dumfounding that they pass up all those great QB choices that could have been taken with one pick and then give away 3 big pick (well, 2 since the 1sts were swapped) for a guy who is 0-2 as a starter and has never had significant regular seaon playing time to judge him either way
Again, I'm LOVING their horrible decisions because it increases the odds of us getting Quinn, but still, I just don't get it and I can't even imagine how pissed Texans fans are, especially because MOST of Carr's problems stemmed from the o-line, not his actual play, so Schaub will just have the same problems.
