We’ve barely used it and when we have we haven’t pressed the wideouts. Don’t think Boyer trust the corners to press. This was the key as both Howard and Jones are excellent press corners which buys the defense that extra half second to get to the qb. The article is wrong saying that Jones isn’t the answer. People have underestimated how important he was to this defense. I still have hope he can return come December and be ready and he’ll come playoffs

The writer of this article doesn’t seem to have a clue. While he admits Howard isn’t the same player he has been in the past and they miss Byron Jones. He seems to overlook the fact that Needham is out for the year and Brandon Jones is also out for the rest of the year.

Trill Williams was expected to make the team and be the 4th CB on the roster and he was injured in the preseason and out for the entire year.

The inside linebackers haven’t been effective for most of the season and that isn’t going to be able to be fixed until after the season.

With all the injuries in the secondary and the subpar play of the inside LBs, the Dolphins just aren’t a very talented team on the defensive side of the ball at this time.

I don’t care who the DC is, it would be hard to get this defense to play well with the lack of talent they have at several positions on defense.

They fixed the offense in the offense in the offseason by going out and signing Armstead, Williams, and trading for Hill. The first move in upgrading the talent on the defense was the trade for Chubb. Yet they still have a lot of work left to upgrade the overall talent on defense and hopefully they will have similar success upgrading the defense in the offseason this year that they had upgrading the offense last off season.

So I feel like there's been a couple of good breakdowns on our defenses and their coverages after each game on the forum - however, i don't know if anyone has charted all of them together. Maybe someone with a PFF license can help? just speculating.

But yea, our 0 blitzes haven't been nearly as effective this year... Why? I think a lot of it has to do with Byron Jones being out and X being injured. Both of those are issues in their own right, because even if hypothetically Byron were healthy and X is what he is currently, the latter would be a liability...
 
I think a big part of the defense during the Flores years was that we were opportunistic and often had multiple turnovers in a game. We are not getting those turnovers and that has a huge impact on how the defense is perceived.

Unfortunately we need him to travel with Amari Cooper and get to the bye. I like Kohou but he’s a slot and Keion “PI or bust” Crossen and Iggy aren’t gonna cut it.
