I know as Dolphin fans we all are used to winning. The word winning has been synonymous with the Miami Dolphins since we entered the NFL and we are all hoping Cam Cameron can return us to our prior glory. But lets just say we do end up loosing again next year. We show some promise but in the end there still is something missing and we finish 6 and 10 or worse. (Time Out)

Depending on what happens at QB this offseason our expectations will vary. If Culpepper comes back and is playing like he is capable we should be expected to challenge for a playoff spot, but if Brady Quinn (or another rookie) is the QB everyone knows it will probally be a couple years. But I challenge all of you as Dolphin fans to let this not factor in your expectations of our current coaching staff.

(Time In) We must be patient. This happend this year with Nick Saban (which some of the blame falls on him, but also on us the fans for expecting too much after such a promising end to that season). I know we have all heard it before and it can be sickning because they are our rivals, but the only team since the begining of the free agency era that have been successful year in and year out is the Patriots. They lost a few good coordinators, but have been able to stay consitant in almost every other aspect of the business/game. Starting with the Owner of the Team, to the back up long snapper, and all they way down to the waterboy, they have done there best to keep the team together (until this year with Branch which i think they came to regret). So over the next couple years as fans we should not be so worried with wins and loses nearly as much as consistancy.

But after this year it will be interesting. If Coach Cameron struggles, high profile guys could be available such as: Bill Cower is going to need a job, Bill Parcells might move to Miami for a retirement home and decide he wants to make a few bucks, Jeff Fisher's contract is up i believe, Urban Mire is probally going to be in consideration in the next few years, Marty Shottenhimer is going to be available, Mike Singeltary had a good interveiw, Ron Rivera possibly, and im sure even more young coaches will be ready to handle the resposiblities of a head coaching job, which was the theme of this years coaching searches. But what we need is consistency, we need to keep coach Cam and his staff around for 3-5 years. Before we decide it doesnt work, we need to give it the oppurtunity to succeed. We need to let him develop his own young talent and to bring in that savvy vet who knows how to win and can help groom young talent (much like Kevin Carter with Matt Roth, and Zach Thomas with Channing Crowder). So I challenge you as fans to do your part, Sunday morning eat your pre game breakfast, bust out the lucky jersey, and cheer on our beloved Fins. Question play calling, complain about lack of talent on the offense and the age of our Defense, watch our ROOKIE HEAD coach make a couple questionable moves, then swear at the tv and throw your beer against the wall, but trust that he will do better next time and stay loyal. We must stay loyal. We have to let our offensive guys an offseason where they are working on the details of the play book instead of learning an entirely new one. Maybe Brady Quinn will fall to us and he will come in, have good rookie year, but we will miss the playoffs week 17, with the football going just over the finger tips of Chris Chambers as time expireces. Or it could be the opposite and we get the first overall pick. Either way we have to keep things in prespective and realize this doesnt mean we will be in the Super Bowl the following year, or we are doomed and must fire our coach. As fans we like to see our team improving every year, but it doesnt always work that way as we will be starting to insert the players Cam wants on offense and Dom on defese (especially with our defense getting up there in age). I personally like our set up, having basically two head coaches with Cam and Dom. But PLEASE give this the time to work. I said it earlier, to be successful we need consistency. It starts by keeping the core of the team together including the coaching staff. Hearing Coach Cameron talk about his love for the Dolphins and the his hunger to turn this team around i believe we are finally headed in the right direction. But to get to our destination we must give our new coaching staff the time to get some consistancy with in our organization and ultimately i believe will return us to our glory and we will once be an annual threat in NFL.

Feel better? Good post, though your point could have been made in less than a sentence. We all want our team to win, we all have to be patient and support our new coach, and none of us should throw Cam under the bus for at LEAST 3-4 years. But trust me, if we go 7-9 next year and improve by just one game, about 40% of the posters in here will be calling for a new HC, sad, but true.

I will stay loyal until i see weakness,if and when i see weakness i will pounce.

The two coaches i am on record for wanting,,Mike tomlin and Mike singletary,,i did'nt get either but i will be loyal to my new coach Cam Cameron,,i wish you luck.

I've waited 34+ years since our last SB win....what's another year or two. I think we need a another QB if we are going to turn it around....let's hope Quinn falls to the #9 spot.

I don't care if this team goes 0-16 this year. What I care about is laying the foundation for success (and by that I mean a Super Bowl) by the end of this decade. As long as I see positive progress toward that goal, I'll be satisfied.

I know I blabbed on a little too long. But the last sentence of your post was the reason i thought i had lay it all out. If I could change just one person's feeling on this matter i would be happy.

It's little use. If this team goes 10-6 and loses in the wild card round of the playoffs, 20% of the forum will still be dissatisfied and will be calling for Cowher (or Parcells or Rivera or whoever the flavor of the month is).

ETA: If that isn't your bag, the money for the VIP forum will be well spent. I'm not one to suggest everybody needs to join, but people whose tolerance for the extremes of this board and those who want the more reasoned discussion of a smaller forum are the people who will benefit from membership. I frankly post out here more than I do in there, but that's because I like some of the stuff that goes on out here among the "unwashed".

To add some clarity to Jimmy James's well conceived, and timely footnote,

even in VIP, debate ensues as to the potential or lack of, regarding each and every aspect of the team. Emotionally based "Fire the Coach" posts are filtered, and properly dealt with, but no individual contributor is above scrutiny, or granted any cushions, if legitimate production isn't achieved, or exonerating reasons for missteps, are anything but clearly obvious.

Very true. People were calling for Saban's head after 4 games this season. No point going over the argument all over, but suffice it to say, that I think Saban did a very good job in Miami.
I also remember several posters suggesting to trade JT and ZT. Of course it would never happen, but just imagine if those posters had their way.
I'm going to be patient with Cameron and support the fins no matter what, however, that doesn't mean I won't be watching them through a critical lens.
Cameron has a good resume and I look forward to seeing what he can do with our offense but realistically there are some large holes to fill.

Quarterback is obviously the first priority but I don't see an immediate solution. I'm all in favour of giving DC another opportunity but I think his leash will be shorter this year. If he isn't playing up to expectations by mid-season next year, whether it be due to injury or not, then I think Lemon should be the starter. Joey, in my opinion, should not be considered to be part of the picture in any sense.
I'm not sure we should draft a Qb this year either. Unless we can get Russell or Quinn then I am not in favour of drafting a QB this year. I'm even a little reluctant to take Quinn. And unless Cameron is wowed by someone in the later rounds, I'd rather see us fill other holes. We have big needs -both sides of the line, secondary, OLB, WR.
If Cameron uses his picks on other positions than Qb, I will not be one of those fans screaming. I think we go with DC and Lemon next year.

Yeah, I seem to do most of my posting in the main forum. I go to VIP to read mostly.
