I believe I appreciate Albert's play, when healthy, as much as anyone as well as his desire to be on the field to help his team. However, as we all know, his being healthy is a major problem for the OL. What is in the best interest of the team to do?

On the cap this year, he will cost $10M. If we move him, we will have $5M in dead money and a $5M savings from salary which is not guaranteed. Basically a wash. We then save $10.6M next year and $11.3M in 2018 in addition to the $5M we get to spend again in 2017. That's $27M to spend over 3 years for another player.

We would need to replace him, and I like Beard's idea of signing Penn to do so. He would be much cheaper and does not miss games. No one will confuse the two in talent but, how much does health matter? This also allows us to draft a LT to groom or maybe do the same with Turner. There are a couple of other options as well.

Opinions?

He'll be 100% healthy now going into the 2016 season. If you cut him you'd then create a huge hole at left tackle. We already have enough big holes to fill.

You cut him ONLY if you have a replacement already signed who is no worse than Albert is.

Even then, if we have a better LT than Brandon Albert on this team, you find a way to fit Albert on this line, even if its going back to his UVA days and becoming a LG. That 5 million dollar hit aint worth it if he's healthy.

You cut Albert to save 5 million then sign a marginal player for about 3....so we save 2 million in the and have a much worse player...easy there Ireland.

i think Albert is back in 2016. Hard to find a LT of his quality, and the team has a lot of other positions to fill. He may not be back in 2017, may have to draft his replacement in the 2017 draft. Depends on how the 2016 season goes and of course his health. Hope they at least sign a quality swing OT and don't rely on terrible players like Fox and Thomas.

pray he doesnt get hurt walking to the shops

You gotta keep him for next year. What I think would be prudent is sign a decent free agent as swing for 2016 and draft a rookie to take over for 2017 if Alberts health/quality of play diminishes

Fox has already been cut

We can't cut him yet. Have to roll with it and hope he doesn't get injured. A good backup swing tackle or 2 is a priority

Despite injuries, Albert can still be very mobile.

Yeah i know, still have to upgrade that spot. Hopefully Dallas Thomas is next on the cut list.OG and backup/swing OT need to be filled by quality players. Can't go into 2016 relying on subpar players at those positions like they did in 2015.
