What should the dolphins do with mare?
Keep him-he's well worth the salary he gets
Keep him-demand another paycut if denied again then cut/trade
Trade him-be better of with a pick or player of equal value
Release him-definately not worth what he gets get him out of here

post anyother comments

What should they do with Mare at this point? Nothing. Free Agency is over, we have plenty of cap space to sign our rookies and some a few other veterans here and there. Sure Mare probably isn't worth what he is making, but at this point we need him, and we have the financial room to keep him.

So, keep Mare for 2006 and re-evaluate the situation next offseason.

Didn't Saban say they were working on his contract to keep him til he retires???

Ok, that is better. But any idea of him leaving at this point shouldn't exist. If they can re-work his contract that can keep him long-term, then they should do it. If they can't, releasing/trading him is not an option before this upcoming season.

Yeah, Mare isn't going anywhere or it would have already happen. Less pressure for Mare too. he doesn't have to worry about winning the game on a FG. We got a great team to put points on the board.

He's not going anywhere

To be competitive and have a shot a winning the close games we need Mare, He's making alot of money but its the kind of money you need to spend to win a close game.
Plus he boots the heck out of the ball on kickoffs :goof:

he is one of the best in the league so we should keep him only if he restructures.

Kickers..........

Mare is past his prime.

He's takeing up WAY to much cap room.

I don't think there's such a thing as "past his prime" when it comes to kickers. I do agree that he's being paid too much, but like it's been said already, it's the end of free agency so might as well keep him. He'll have to restructure to stay here no doubt. But maybe they don't even restructure right now, restructure later and over pay him now, when we don't really need the money for anything else. That may give him more give when asked to take a paycut.
