Okay so I have seen a lot of people on this board say that they want Porter to be cut this offseason. Most people seem to point towards his high salary beign the problem with respect to his production. Personally I think Porter is playing through injuries which is limiting his porduction. I don't think he has fallen off after putting together the best year he's ever had. I think he still has a another 2 or 3, 10 sack, years left in him (when healthy and for the record he doesn't have a history of being injury prone either). I do agree that his salary is quite high, but I think we should keep him anyway. So I was just wondering if people here are mainly concerned with his salary as the biggest issue or just think he's washed up.

I say try n keep him,he is ferocious and gully and stuff and doesnt hold his toungue for press conferences.....hes a good role model for the younger dolphins.......I hope he comes back another season

Age aside, does anyone realize that Porter playing injured for most of the season, may have actually had an impact on his play thus far?

Cut him , He's a disttraction , injury prone , inconsistant, undiscipined and old! He's slowing the progress of Wake and Anderson.

i am tired of watching him do the 2 step dance with anybody blocking him, thanks for a great year in 2008, but its time to cut ties.

just a sec, lemme think....

the only reason I see keeping him is because he's a leader in the locker room.
I know he can still play, and I know he's playing through injuries right now,
but I'm liking the youth movement we have going on right now.

I'll leave that decision up to the boys upstairs. that's why they get paid and I don't.

no need to rush the decision. if we're able to land one or two pass-rushers in the draft, we can still get rid off Porter. even then, i'd think twice about it. i don't think we want to lose all our veteran leadership at the position in one off-season.

Cap cut and replaced by Wake (they're basically the same players at this point anyway).

I think we need to totally revamp our LB unit.

I'd love to see us bring in two ILBs (Kirk Morrison UFA from OAK and Barrett Ruud UFA from TB) to replace current starters Crowder and Ayodele.

Ayodele could be kept as a backup (along with Torbor) but I'd love to see if we could trade Crowder (maybe along with Ginn) for a mid round pick.

I would get these vet FA ILBs b/c I don't think we're gonna see Rolando McClain still on the board when we draft in the 1st round.

At OLB, we could bring back JT (for a final year) and Charlie Anderson and of course, Cameron Wake. And then we look to add some more OLB/DE hybrids for the 3-4 OLB spots in the draft.

Another big issue this offseason will be Ronnie Brown. With all due respect to Ronnie, no way would I give him a max, long term deal taking him into his 30s.

I don't think we'd get the 1st-and-3rd price if we franchise tagged him so I'd rather try to trade him for a lesser package before the draft.

Somthing like this as an ideal offseason:

FA: Sign ILBs Barrett Ruud and Kirk Morrison

Trade: Ronnie to HOU (Texans desperate for a RB) for HOU's 2nd round pick

Trade: Crowder and Gin to CLE (CLE needs LB & WR help and may lose Cribbs thus needing KR/PR help) for CLE's 4th round pick (don't think we'll get much better than a high 4th rounder)

Draft:

Round 1: Terrence Cody NT Alabama (replaces Ferguson, pushes Soliai)
Round 2a: Jonathan Dwyer RB GT (replaces Ronnie, compliments Ricky)
Round 2b: Demaryius Thomas WR GT (replaces Ginn as a real #1 WR)
Round 3: Aaron Hernandez TE Florida (bumps Haynos down to 3rd string)
Round 4a: George Selvie OLB South Florida (replaces Porter)
Round 4b: Brandon Graham OLB Michigan (replaces Porter)

2010 Roster:

QB Henne, White, Thigpen
RB Dwyer*, Ricky, Cobbs
FB Polite, Hilliard

Astros.... I don't mind your entire idea there but if they're going to sign two vets on D I'd rather it be a DT and MLB rather than 2 MLB's and get a WR in the 1st round Or a WR and either a MLB or DT in FA then get the other one in the draft. Lets face it Crowder is here for a while, he just signed a pretty big contract in the offseason and I'm pretty sure it would cost more money to cut him than to keep him. IMO though get a playmaking WR and ILB at all costs.

Realistically, you're right - I think we will see Crowder here for a while but damn, Ruud and Morrison would be HUGE upgrades and they're both likely to be on the move this offseason.

As for NT in FA...Vince Wilfork will be out there.

But I think getting a younger version like Terrence Cody would be ideal.
