Okay all, after a brutal Playoff loss like that all I can do is take a deep breath and begin thinking about how to improve the mess of what we saw out there today.
By far my biggest disappointment today was the offensive line and front 7 for Miami.
Here's some thoughts about what we need to do to improve:
- This should have been BA last year at LT and he should move to LG or be cut/traded. It's time to move Tunsil to LT permanently.
- We need sign Leary from Dallas for the RG position or draft a guard in the first three rounds. (I prefer FA here)
- If Pouncey comes back healthy next year and we hold onto Ubrik, Steen for depth than our Line could be Tunsil, BA, Pouncey, Leary, and James
- Another starting capable TE who is a blocking/pass catching TE, I'm thinking someone like Witten here who doesn't have to be a burner but can help the running game with his size, I'm done with weak receiving only TE's like Jordan Cameron. Sims and another with Gray backing them up at TE #3.
- I was on the fence about trading Matt Moore this offseason but my concern is wasting a draft pick on a developmental QB with Tannehills questionable health when experience is what we need. Moore played fairly well today but got destroyed by a horrendous outing by our Oline, there just isnt enough experience behind Tannehill to feel good about trading Moore yet IMO.
- Re-sign Kenny Stills, he has earned it and we have more than enough at WR between Landy, Still, Parker, and Caroo.
Defense:
Where to begin???
- Well, we are in need two starting LBs outside of Kiko, Hewitt should be retained for depth and Butler, Misi, Jenkins and Paysinger cut. I see looking to the draft for our first pick or second round.
- Safety depth, am I the only one who thinks it's time to move on from Michael Thomas and Rambo??? I think we need a starting capable safety to backup Quddus and Jones or even push Quddus into a Safety #3 role since he seems to be able to play SS/FS. Keep Aikens for special teams, if we keep Thomas move him to nickel CB to help in single back running 3WR/4WR situations.
- We need to draft a pass rushing DE in the first round, Wake was amazing this year and he may be aging like a fine wine but we only have a couple of years left in him. Branch was a nice surprise this year and I'd like to see us resign him. We need a starter opposite branch to allow Wake to rotate in and stay fresh. (What Mario was supposed to be)
- Get hefty at DT. Jordan Phillips and Suh are a strong 1-2 but we need a chunker in the middle to come in and bolster the running game - perhaps Suh could shift to DE on early running downs? I'm thinking like Ngata/Sands size here because we are too small at DT and are getting pushed around. I am completely indifferent to Mitchell coming back to the team (yet another undersized DT)
- CBXavien Howard is minimally a CB #2, Maxwell is a giant question but I think he comes back as CB1/CB2 next year. Lippett could be regulated to boundary during long passing plays as he doesn't seem to be a good tackler and seems like more of a liability of short versus long balls. I would gladly move on from Bobby McCain, or at worse keep him as a dime and sign another nickel who has some legitimate NFL experience.
It's a start - what do you think?????? :idk:
