There is too much talk about Chris Long...is he going to help an atrocious run defense?? NO....if we keep Taylor, our secondary isn`t too bad and linebacker corp is average..our LINE is HORRENDOUS...we`re dealing with Parcells here..he loves numbers and BIG BODIES...we need to start focusing on winning the battles in the trenches...I think we almost have to load up on the O-line and add a BIG MAN on the D-line....that jackhole Speilman ignored the lines by signing journeymen over several years...the last good OT we had was Richmond Webb........with that said..trade out of that number 1...gain some additional picks, I think Minnesota would deal, they want a starting DE, like LONG....lets soldify the LINES this year and go for skill position players next year....

Chris Long has shown over the years to be an excellent run defender. I'm guessing you have never seen him play.

Jake Long as questions on his ability to play Lt. Chris Long is the most versatile Defensive player in the draft. He can play DE, OLB and even ILB in the 3-4. He also can play the 3technique DT. The draft is deep at T and CB. We will address the Two positions in the second round.

why in the hell would we want to drop to number 17?

to drop to seventeen they would have to give us every pick they have this year. Or they're 2nd this year and they're first next year...maybe more

Why drop to 17? Easy..additional picks and possible player from MN.....yes..I`ve seen Chris Long play...and like you said, he can play OLB, DE, and whatnot...thats fine and dandy, but you need a BIG MAN IN THE MIDDLE...every team in the league exposes our weakness in the middle..does Chris Long play NT too?? Drafting Chris Long is the Speilman school of drafting....just like MATT ROTH was suppose to be a contributor on this team, which has yet to pan out...JUST SAY NO TO LONG...solidify the LINES and allow the RB`s to run and not take a beating...a D-line that can hold on 3rd and 1.....

The Dolphins MUST draft Jake Long. A potentially dominant left tackle is more important than a potentially good pass rusher. Jason Taylor is a dominant pass rusher, and look at where that got the Dolphins. The offense must stay on the field longer than three plays, and a great offensive line is the key to that.

The draft is very deep at Tackle. We could get a very good tackle in the second round. For all we know these guy can turn out to be Robert Gallery. Chris Long can be a great player for us.

At #1, you cannot draft for need only, you have to take the BPA.
Taylor, as great as he is, will not be around much longer.
IMO, Chris Long is the BPA, and hopefully can be equal to the task of filling the void left when JT leaves.
As bad as the D was last year, imagine what it would have been like without JT.
Parcells and Ireland picked up some solid players in FA, and IMO are re-building the team very intelligently. There is no way will ignore the OL and DL in the draft, but with the amount of money a #1 pick gets, you HAVE to take the BPA at #1.

Totally agree!! I'm so tired of CLong as the savior here. If the Giants don't run the table nobody is going as nuts over a OLB/DE guy like this. College is NOT the NFL. What these guys do there is not equal to the NFL. IF a guy is a tweaner there that is NOT good in the NFL. Did I hear someone say DT for Long. Now we have a guy that can play OLB, DE, and DT? Are you kidding me? With the #1 pick you want a guy to come in and be a starter day 1 and be an impact starter year 1. We are not trying to fill a hole with the #1 overall pick - we want a pro bowl pick at 1 position - a superstar. I want a stud at 1 position that I can plug in for the next 10 years. Is CLong that guy - I trust whatever BP and Ireland think but it better be for 1 position and certainly not DT. We are playing a 3-4 straight up - none of this switching back and forth - that was ridiculous. Use a true NT and plug the middle! I actually think IF JLong is legit at LT (and we have great coaches for the OL to know) then that fills 2 holes and possibly gives you book end tackles for the next 10 years. Tough to beat that. You'd have a young center and RG all young and can possibly stay together for a long time. One LG away for a rebuilt line - something to be said about that - BUT is JLong the answer at LT?

Yes...take the BPA..but first, TRADE OUT of the #1...get an additional 2nd rounder..select Jake Long in the 1st round...take a BIG D-line guy in the second..and possibly another O-line guy with the other second rounder...and maybe a QB or TE in the 3rd round..our lines are horrendous..and they have been for years...won`t matter who`s QB if we have a weak line, they will be watching most of the game on their back..we have to win the battles in the trenches!

Take a look at our roster. We have no offensive lineman.

Sure, I'd like Chris Long, Vernon Gholston, Glenn Dorsey, et al., but we have starters for the defensive front seven AND back-ups.

The OL is short a LG and LT (or RT, depending on where they want to put Carey).

Should there be any quetion what we do?

Take Jake Long. He is the consensus best OT in the draft. Let's just take him! No trade downs to risk losing him.

Yes, we could take a tackle at 32 and everyone says the depth at tackle is great, but as spelled out well in another post, the success rate for top 10 rated tackles is much greater than 2nd rounders, and we need a guy who can start immediately.
