Perhaps not the most exciting draft, but it seems there was a plan... and they seem to have stuck to it.

I'm thinking that the philosophy is that an offense is no better than it's offensive line, and a defense is no better than it's defensive line.

With a 1-win-team, the lines have got to be pretty bad.
*****
The defensive-line has had an over-haul with 4 new D-linemen, including Ferguson coming from this draft. Plus the guy from the Titans we signed, who looks like a backup now.
*****
The offensive-line has also been overhauled, with only 2 returning starters, and 1 of these, Carey, shifting positions from the Left to the right.

Left Guard is our most unsettled position, and we drafted two Guards.
*****
Height seems to be the most obvious attribute which stands out with most of these new guys. You can't teach height, and it appears we just signed a bunch of tall guys, 6'4" and greater.
*****
We got rid of L Booker, and drafted two runningbacks. It appears we want an everydown back, and not a scat-back. The two guys we signed seem to have been productive in college... 5.5 YPC, 1000+ yards per year. Some pass-catching abilities. Maybe this is Ricky's last year... seems good to plan for the future.

Then there's Chad Henne. He is a big qb. Most productive QB to play at Michigan. I think he's 6'3", 230. He wasn't a guy I targeted. Reminds me a little of Tony Romo, though. Looks confident and strong-armed. Less mobile than Romo, leading some to compare him to Bledsoe. I'm not sure whether he will be able to contribute this year, but at 57, this seemed to be pretty good value. I like him more than Matt Ryan, but that's just me.

We did a good job bolstering the OL and DL. This is the beginning of the rebuilding process.

I have been saying for a while now that the running back depth everyone preached of so highly was deceiving. Looks like an overhaul at the position is their plan. You just can't trust Ricky so an insurance policy was indeed needed. Ronnie will be slow coming back IMO.

I thought we would definitely draft a running back. Drafting two was a bit of a shocker but tells us a little more about what is actually going on.

I agree with everything you said. Size definately was the reoccuring theme throughout the weekend. I am very excited for Langford. Dude is absolutely huge and seems like a stellar athlete!!! Although the draft didnt have the big "Mel Kiper, Todd McShay" names it was a very producive draft and I think we will quickly find out just how produtive the 2008 draft was.

I beat the RB drum, as well. What I like is that both of these backs are big, bruising, hard to tackle guys. If they stick on the roster they will earn their keep immediately on ST opening holes for Ginn. The last thing in the world I would wish on Ronnie is a setback, so if Ricky is the presumed temporary starter it's nice to have some guys backing him up who can crack skulls.

How does henne remind you of romo? There games are polar opposites.
