The last time the Dolphins hosted the Ravens, it wasn’t pretty.

The Dolphins didn’t do much of anything right during a 27-13 loss Oct. 19 in Dolphin Stadium, a defeat that might have been the most convincing by a Miami opponent this season.

But that was then. This is now.

The Dolphins are 9-1 since the Ravens loss and seem to be a much more confident, effective team.

But will it be enough against the Ravens, who have won six of eight and are playing as well as any team in the NFL?

when we get down into the red zone, we must put 7 on the board instead of 3. baltimores d is rlly good and when u get a chance to put tds on the board u must get the maximum rather then the minimum, bc u wnt find many chances to score. last game we opened up with a really nice drive but we had to settle for 3 pts, and then we had another drive later in the game where we drove down to the 10 yd line with 1st and goal and settled for 3. if we had gotten 7 both of those times and suggs hadnt taken it to the house, that would be the diffrence between us winning that game and losing.

Efficent Offense, but even more important Better Defense

We won't score a lot, so what little we can score, we must Protect it with very very strong defense!!!

I think the key will be how well our D plays because we're not gonna get many points. Keeping them out of the endzone and making a couple of scoring opportunities in the endzone. No pick sixes this game, that obviously changed the game.

Two words - Pressure Flacco.

Mix up coverages & blitz him to rush & confuse the rookie...

Pennington needs to continue being perfect too.

Our defense's main weakness is covering swing passes to the HB...Ronnie could do some serious damage if Miami figures that out, and it would also open up a little room to run.

I honestly think Miami's best bet is to just try and shoot it out and hope for the best...they're not going to win if they try to turn it into a ball control game.

Our Net Pts is 28.

That means, we give up way too many points to the opponents on an average. Our winnings are won close. These other playoff teams win by much more!

This Sunday, we are against a team that has Net Pts of 141, The BEST.

That means, they don't give up a lot of points at all.

We must hold on to our score. Keep it Close, and have a GREAT Defense!

points and our rb's coming out and hitting the defense in the mouth and beating them down like indy did to them we need to come out and score first and just keep going from there if we get a 2 td lead i think penne has what it takes to seal the deal

It really comes down to holding the Ravens to under 100 yards rushing and winning the time of possession battle. That is a big task, but I think we can do it with eight in the box. The Ravens wide receivers do not scare me. Mason is good, but he is injured. If you put Goodman on him, then he should be able to knock down passes Mason. Let's make Falco prove he can beat us.

We can't get into the Red Zone if were not starting at least the 5. We have to go deep down the field.

Simple as that, because Baltimore won't let us score.

Here is the key... POISE.

Miami cannot get out of control on offense. They have to stay poised and execute the offense. Pennington is the key. He can't get rattled like last time. Also, they need to do things like run NO HUDDLE out of nowhere. Practice no huddle so that the Ravens never have time to set up their odd style of defense. Mix up the plays. Give them more looks than they can handle.

On defense, Miami has to keep the Ravens out of the endzone. If Miami can do that, they will win for sure.

Ravens games tend to be low scoring. So Miami needs to play poised, mistake free football AND GET POINTS. 3 points on a drive is gold against the Ravens. Don't get upset if you have to settle for 3 points. Don't get too emotional. Stay hard and focused. Dan Carpentar should be ready to go. He might have to kick several on Sunday.

Great call on the no huddle. That has been a HUGE sore spot all year long for us.
But on the other hand, with a few exceptions, our games have been anything but low scoring, like they were in years past. We've put up 27 points or more nine times this year. So field goals aren't going to cut it; you're going to have to get in the end zone at least three times.

Run the ball well and stop the run. We manage to do those and we win.

Some things to mention regarding Baltimore at Miami this weekend -

- Flacco has a sparkling 92 QB rating in road games this year.

- The Dolphins have some good pass catchers out of the backfield. They HAVE to throw some good screens to negate Baltimore's aggressive defense.

- If you take the first half of the KC game out, when they surprised us with a spread offense and running unconventional plays in the 1st half (Miami adjusted at halftime and only gave up a field goal in the 2nd half), Miami's defense has only given up 2 touchdowns in the last 18 quarters of the season. That's incredible.

- Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are healthy, and just as importantly "Fresh" for this time of year. Ronnie only has a little over 200 carries this season. I'm surprised that we didn't try to run more on the Jets even though both of them combined for over 100 yards rushing against the Jets. The Jets were giving up a lot of yards on the ground before last Sunday's game, I thought we would attempt run more and not rely on Penny so much.

- The Ravens are amazing up the middle of their defense. They have a stud defensive tackle with Haloti Ngata, then Ray Lewis behind him at MLB, and what can you say about Ed Reed behind him at safety.. Miami will have to attack soft spots on the outside going off tackle.. Run toss sweeps to Ricky and Ronnie as that's their weakness. With our tackles Jake Long and Vernon Carey leading the charge, Ronnie and Ricky have each averaged over 5 yards a carry on toss sweeps and pitch sweeps this season.. In other words, try not to run in the middle of that Ravens defense too much. Get that Ravens defense going sideways by running outside the offensive tackles. Jake Long is already considered the best run blocking tackle in the league, and Carey is fantastic at the right tackle spot in run blocking as well, that's where we have to go, OFF TACKLE and outside the tackles on pitches and sweeps !

Miami also has athletic guards and an athletic center. Get those interior lineman pulling to the outside creating a man advantage ! In the earlier game Baltimore run blitzed us like crazy UP THE MIDDLE.. So run outside ~!

- Then after that, have Penny go play action for passes (as Penny is fantastic at play action fakes) after sucking in their aggressive defense..

- Defense has to get to the QB this week. I was surprised we didn't blitz that much against the Jets (maybe because Favre is good against the blitz). You saw Yeremiah Bell come from the safety position on a blitz and bat a ball down behind the line of scrimmage, but not much else in the game. They better pull some stunts and get to the rookie Rat QB to get him rattled with the crowd behind them. Miami has to find creative ways to get to the QB if they can stop the run early.

- Miami finished the season playing 4 of 5 games on the road, and won every one of them.. Miami hasn't played that well at home over the last 2 home games. But I actually like that, because it means Miami is due for a breakout game at home.. Especially with the game sold out already, it means the fans will go crazy, as south florida is transfixed and going nuts about the turnaround of the team. Miami has to feed off of the crowd that will be pulling for them bigtime.

- Miami lost handily to Arizona and Baltimore this year after crushing last second defeats against Houston and the Jets the week before both of those games. I think it had to do with a young team still finding themselves and not knowing how to react after a heartbreaking last second defeat..... . Those last second heartbreaking defeats the week prior (of the Arizona and Baltimore games) probably had something to do with Miami's performance against Arizona and Baltimore earlier in the season.. Miami is a different team now, a different defense than Baltimore played earlier.

- Miami is a home underdog for this game. PERFECT, we have been underdogs all year !! Coach Sparano needs to remind the team that the Steelers were underdogs in all 3 AFC playoff games when they won the super bowl recently. And needs to inform the team that the Giants were underdogs in all 4 of their playoff games last year when they won the super bowl.

- Baltimore opened that game earlier this year against Miami when they had a pick six against us ( I believe it was Terrell Suggs who returned an INT for a TD).. That blew the game open and you saw Baltimore's body language change after that, it inspired them.... .. If Miami can avoid turnovers this Sunday, and Miami has been the best in the league this year at not turning the ball over, Miami has a good chance. Baltimore leads the entire league in interceptions this season with 26.. So you will have a match up of a team that is the best at taking the ball away, against a team that set the NFL record for least amount of turnovers in a season ( Miami with only 13 turnovers on the year)...

The Ravens feast off of turnovers. If Miami continues what they have done this season in protecting the ball very well, it would be HUGE imo.

I hate to bat a dead horse, but we need to run off tackle and not up the middle.. I emphatically believe that's a MAJOR key to this game. Ronnie and Ricky ran for about 1600 yards this season, and I would bet BIG MONEY that WELL over 1000 of those yards were from running over the tackle (or off tackle), or to the outside of the tackles on sweeps..

I mean, just take a look at this video of some of their runs this season... This video is all Ricky and Ronnie this season... Notice how over 85% of their successful runs shown here are off-tackle runs, or runs to the outside (outside of the tackles)-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fyl6nw2ljQ

To show that I am not full of it, look back in this thread during the last Miami-New England game.. I stated during that game here in week 12, that Miami was running off 6 yards per carry on New England when running OFF TACKLE to the outside! And whenever Miami ran inside over the guards or center, they got stopped for little to no gain against Wilfork up the middle..

Why Miami kept running inside in that game I have NO IDEA ! But during that game, in the middle part of that game, I called it.. If Miami kept running outside, they would have had a better chance to win that game by controlling the ball and the clock. Because whenever they did run off tackle they ripped off 6 yards per carry on New England in that game.... Add in some misdirection plays, and Miami wins that game, and Miami has 10 wins in a row instead of winning 9 of their last 10...
I can't say it enough, Miami needs to run outside against the Ravens. They are too strong inside with Ngata and Lewis up the middle. If we try to butt heads with them up the middle, like we tried to do earlier this year, we will lose..

But, If Miami runs off tackle like I know they can to the outside, they will have a MUCH better chance (and more success). Especially with the bullish offensive tackles we have and the interior lineman we have (they are athletic and are good at pulling to the outside).

ATTACK Baltimore at the edges ! Make them go side to side ! Thats where they are vulnerable, but only IF you have great offensive tackles that are great run blockers to make it work- and Miami HAS THAT !.

That video above doesn't lie. Ronnie and Ricky averaged well over 5 yards per carry going over tackle (or outside of the tackles this season) for a reason.. They are damn good at it, and good at getting there..

Baltimore sent run blitzes all day at us UP THE MIDDLE.. And we were dumb enough to run right at it. You just can't do that.. The Ravens were successful at run blitzing us right up the middle earlier this year, and you know they will do it again. The counter to that is hitting it outside, which just so happens to be what we are best at. It's a no-brainer really..
