I'd love to see Miami make the playoffs this year. But, they probably won't go far if they do. Their problem is too many holes filled by less-than-starter-quality players, thanks to a combination of Philbin and Ireland and a bit of help from Hickey. They have mostly the same holes to fill for next year that they had for this year, which is actually pathetic. Under Philbin this team would be 1-5 right now, but luckily Campbell (unlike Philbin) knows the value of a good running game and how it can help your passing game. On defense, Campbell wants the line to attack the QB, unlike Coyle's permanent prevent defense. Campbell is doing a great job of getting the most out of the players, but eventually he WILL need some better starters at OG, LB, and in the secondary.
It's too early to say that Campbell deserves the job, but my fear is that should Ross decide to go with another Head Coach for next season the odds are that he'll choose someone who will be more like Philbin than Campbell. I'd hate to see them go back to wussy-ball and stop being aggressive. With Campbell (or someone like him) and a good draft and free agency, this team will challenge the Pats for a division title next year, as long as they continue what they're doing and upgrade certain positions.
