You figure that with Bowens and Chester possibly sitting out the year (or retiring, whichever the case may be) do you guys think we will keep Zgonina?? Do you guys think he is good enough to start?? I think he is a bit undersized, however he was a great starter in St. Louis. I remember hearing trade rumors about him, but do you guys think that maybe keeping him is the better option???

With Tim-Bo a goner and Chester's questionable health keeping Zgonina is a must.

He can't hold up against the run that well but he is a useful passing down defensive tackle.

Any depth we can get at defensive tackle is a good thing.

He isn't young, he's undersized, but he performed pretty well last year. With TimBo likely gone and Chester's career in jeopardy... I think keeping Zgonina might be an option even if we do sign Traylor. But he might not fit into Saban's scheme and might end up getting released or traded. I really do hope if we get any trade offers for him, to definitely make it happen. I really would like a 5th round pick for Zgonina if still possible.

I think signing Traylor has to be priority #1 right now
Agreed. I think we've had an almost flawless offseason thus far (unfortuately the Will Poole injury was just bad luck). I've been excited about just almost every signing! I think signing Keith Traylor (and maybe even a couple more signings once we get more money after cuts) would complete an AMAZING offseason.

I hope Zgonina gets a chance to compete in training camp, b/c I believe his strengths as a player are much better suited to Saban's scheme than they were to the previous regime's scheme.

I believe Zgonina will be kept now.

I think that would be our best option now also, He's a proven starter and hopefully he proves to be better in Sabans system.

Gotta keep him. We can't be so thin at DT, even if he is undersized. Shoot, we might be FORCED into a 3-4 if we sign Traylor.

I think Zgonina staying is a good possibility, but I also think Saban will look at June 1 cuts before deciding. Or it may mean that Carter plays alot of DT this year. All said I would like to see Traylor signed.

Zgonina is too small and too old to fill the middle. :cooldude: :cooldude: Orrin Thompson out of Duke is on our roster. He,s 6' 6" and 300 pounds. Anyone know anything about him?:cooldude: :cooldude:

Vickerson is out of Michigan this year and Shaw was last year. I guess Saban still has some contacts! Are any of these kids any good?????

Zgonina was our best DT last year i think. with us keeping the 4-3 in the plans i would love him to stay.

Zgonina will be a post June 1st cut, I believe.

He doesnt fit our system, and cant really be made to fit our system. He isnt a Nose Tackle type, nor does he the versitality that Carter, Holliday, Vickerson, etc. have in being able to play 4-3 DE, 4-3 UT, and 3-4 DE.

4-3 DE / (OLB)
JT, Matt Roth , David Bowens(6/1 release?)

4-3 DT / 3-4 DE
Kevin Carter, Vonny Holliday(?), Jeff Zgonina(6/1 release?), Dario Romero, Kevin Vickerson(7th round)

4-3 2-gap DT / 3-4 NT
Keith Traylor( Phins or Browns?), Larry Chester(??) , TimBo(???)
