What would it take to get Billy Volek?

No way will they let him go, Mcnair is too injury prone and may be in his last year of football anyway. I think we would have a better chance of getting David Garrard from the jags as Byron Leftwich is young.

This is a hypothetical question. I'd be surprised if our front office is currently looking for any quality prospects on other rosters. But I am just really unhappy over the prospect of waiting out an entire season of mediocre-to-bad QB play. All this so we can draft a rookie in 2006 who may not be a good starter until 2007! (That is, assuming he lives up to expectations at all.)

If Saban really wants to win now, he should get the very best prospect out there who is currently not starting for his team. And I believe that player to be Billy Volek of the Tennessee Titans. Volek has been astonishing in every appearance he has made, displaying all the skills, accuracy and arm strength of a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback.

Volek was very impressive last year, putting up huge games in relief of Steve McNair and has again impressed this past preseason, leading all QBs with over 500 yards passing(!). He is a pure passer in the Marino mold who would be an excellent QB in Linehan's system.

So, to my original question: If you could get a great young quarterback (who might only need a few weeks of practice in a new system to begin playing) and could get you wins this season, what would you pay? The Titans do have real needs and we do have great depth at certain positions, including WR, RB and LB.

Also, unlike others, I'm not opposed to trading a draft pick for a very good player, so long as that player is truly a quality starter. That was the problem with our past GM, paying too much for too little. That doesn't mean you can't trade a good pick and still get a great player.

Sorry for the long-winded post, but I start very few threads and this is something I'd like to see debated. I'd pay a 2nd for Volek, or a starter and two backups for him. That's how good the man is.

We can't get Volek because tennessee is only keeping 2 quarterbacks on their roster

A bad GM.

exactly i would LOVE to see billy here but unless spielman is runnin that team i dont see it happenin lets draft one or rivers/brees next yr

The titans have excellent depth at wr gvery good depth at running back and good enough depth that they would trade one of their back ups to the Colts

Let it go people, this is who Miami has for the 2005 season.

Wow, I just love all the defeatist replies like this. I thought I'd stipulated that I wanted this thread to be about getting someone who could compete sometime before late 2006 or early 2007..?

I think Miami has to tough this season out at QB and next year finally draft a QB for the future and get this journey towards a FUTURE Super Bowl underway!

This isn't fairy tale land. Mention when a NFL team suddenly
found a QB after the season had started ? I'm speaking of
one that was not on their roster. The team is what it is.
You can't fill every hole in one offseason. I wish they
could've but it's not possible and no good QB is out there to be
had. Sorry.

I like him and I realize it's a hypothetical, but you still have to factor in that it would probably take him four weeks to learn the offense and who knows how long to feel comfortable in it. In other words, would he really help us this year?

That said, I think it would take at least a 3rd and maybe a 2nd to get him. With Miami in a building mode, a #2 could essentially be like a low #1 similar to what happened with Feeley. I think Saban will look to the draft or through free agency without giving up picks.

I think the bigger question, though, is can any quarterback prosper behind the current offensive line? We've seen Griese, who has put up pretty good numbers elsewhere, struggle and the list goes on.

Unfortunately we had our chance to get Volek. We chose to give up a 2nd for Feeley.
TRADE OF THE CENTURY!!! It's beautiful how AJ Feely went to the Pro Bowl his first year here and gave Chris Chambers 1,500 yards. :shakeno:

As long as Jeff Fisher is coach, McNair will be starting til he hangs it up.

I don't believe that Tenn would be willing to let him go... Think about it, how much longer does McNair really have?

exactly. McNair almost didn't come back for this year, and is a hard sneeze from retiring.

If by some miracle Tennesee would consider trading him, they probably wouldn't even think of getting anything less than a 1st rounder. I'm not saying he is necessarily worth it (I think he is from what I've seen) but his value to the Titans organization alone would make it difficult to get him for anything less.
